i know there is already another active thread similar to this one, but my situation is a little different.

i have a job offer in tyler in the engineering/construction industry. i would be relocating from houston. i'm single and in my 30's. the job is great, but i don't know a lot about tyler. i am interrested in nitelife, golf, a&m clubs, and the town atmosphere in general. also, how long does it really take to get to college station from tyler.

i would probably rent at first before i purchased anything....any recommendations on apartments/condos. i hear south tyler is the place to be.

cbi, i was up there tuesday. i stayed at the holiday inn express on the loop. apparently there was a mary k convention at my hotel. i saw some hot girls. i had never been to tyler, but was pleasantly suprized. i didn't have a lot of time to check out the town, but everyone told me that the south part of tyler is the place to be. i'm on the fence right now. texags usually gives me some pretty good insight.....

the girls are good looking here i will say that. The clubs are eh really.. Ultra can probably shed more light on that subject.

if i take this job i'll probably be in tyler for a while. the HR people give the typical "chamber of commerce" view of the city. i looking for inside info......

Straight up? It can be hard if you're single. Not alot to do although there are some good looking girls scattered among the toothless ones. Nice place to raise a family. VERY conservative. If you have too many piercings, tats or are gay, you will be frowned upon. That being said, I've never seen more hypocrisy. A few pluses: A&M games are a right down the road, we never miss a home game. Dallas and Shreveport casinos are an hour away. If you have any more questions, ask them.

the holiday inn express on loop 323 (903-566-0600) was great. kind of funny, but the HR girls took me to lunch at some mexican place on 5th steet inside the loop that started with a "c" i think. our waiter was one of the biggest homos i've ever seen. nobody said anything and then one of the girls in our party actually apoligized to me. i couldn't quit laughing.

Also, another funny thing, when i got back to my hotel i fired up my laptop and tried to connnect to the hotel wi-fi. one of the networks was named "Vote John McCain 2008". it had a higher signal than the hotel network but was locked.

i'm thinking about making a quick trip up this weekend to check out the south part of town.

el charros mexican food. iceman and i can vouch for that place from the inside. good sh*t

any of you guys tried graduate classes at tu-tyler? i'd love to check into their mba program, but the whole "unversity of texas" thing gives me the creeeps a little....

El Charro has some good plates but if you dont know what you get it might get iffy.

what about golf courses? everyone says "cascades" is a good one.

Cacades, eagles bluff and Hollytree are the better ones. I think there is a good one right off of 20 but i cant remember its name.

Pine springs has night golf. we go out there sometimes drink some beers and hit some balls.

if i end up in tyler i will definately have to look you guys up. i'm getting old, and might not be able to keep up with you guys.

edit: Garden valley is the course on I-20. It was voted 6th best public course in texas! Played there last friday and it is in great shape!

The golf course by i-20 is Garden Valley and is the nicest public course in the area. There is a better one in Frankston called Pine Dunes.


I've seen that fegh at El Charro on Erwin. I dont know how he makes it here.

pine dunes is great as well. there is also twin pines or something in canton that is good for 30 bucks but you have to drive an hour away.

Gas will make that a $100 round.

Pine Dunes is a great coures and in the best shape around. Cascades has the same back nine as the old course, just with more grass. Check out Willow Brook if your into the CC scene it's very much like Bushwood

i'm going to rent before i get in any long term commitments. does anyone know about The Mansions at the Cascades or Stonebrook Apartments? from what i hear they are nice.

my good friends wife is head of something at the mansions at Cascades. They are sweet. alot of cool things plus golf is right next door.

CBI / Howe-Baker. I have several friends that work there and like it.

Shreveport is alot closer to 2 hours than 1 from Tyler. I live in Marshall and shreveport is almost 45 minutes from here.
