The best resturant in the Valley is The Vermillion in Brownsville. It is just plain good for a variety of foods.

Port Isabel: Manuel's
SPI: Blackbeards
McAllen: A toss up between several places, depending on the category.

Manuels started on the Island years ago in the old Padre South Hotel, or might have been the other old yellow hotel by Sunchase, but has been at both of those and then he moved to the corner of Red Snapper and Padre, where the pharmacy is. Joe, the owner who is not named Manuel (long story there), got tired of the high rent and moved to PI.

Awhile back he started a smaller one for take out over by Jim's Pier or something. I don't get to the Island much anymore, but he told me they were doing it during the busy times. His mom is the lady that owns Isabella's in PI, also a really, really good place to eat. I almost prefer Isabella's due to the service being faster.

Are any of you old enough to remember Palmetto Inn in Harlingen?

i ate at Palmetto Inn in Harlingen every once in a while growing up; i think it's a pretty good mexican food place now.

I don't get down there too often, but I thought the old Palmetto Inn shut down a long time ago. I guess I'm confused. I'm glad, though, that they are still around.

Palmetto in Harlingen was pretty good. Their chips they serve before your meal was the best part.

The one on the island is still open.

I've got a hunting lease just outside of Linn/San Manuel.

Can anyone recommend a good Mexican restaurant in Edinburg/Pharr for lunch. So far what we've found has been just o.k.

and for my dollar the best is The Friendly Meat Market.

Maroon,

listen to me:

south of the TA truck stop, just south of J&D Produce, on the east side of 281, is a little building named Suzie's Tacos.

It is worth the 8 minute drive for the breakfast tacos, especially if you are gonna be dove hunting in the afternoon.

That is all.

RGV....Cocina Mobil #2! Nice addition. It took a lot of guts to eat there the first time, but after that I was hooked.

I still like Caros, even though it isnt what it used to be.

Phi:

I haven't eaten at Cocina Mobil in a few years, it used to be real good. I had to try it, just for the name. Supposedly it has been a few other places and they just keep moving the trailer. I never asked about Cocina Mobil #1, I am sure it is an interesting story.

Have you eaten at the Freindly Meat Market? It is real, real good. Also in RGC there is that place on the right as you go north on 755, Rio Cafe or something.

I about did it in my mess kit the first time I ate there. I walk in, and they only serve one or two entrees a day, and I ask what is being served as there is no menu, and the guy tells me "Cornish Game Hens", no lie. I about died. But, they were excellent, come to think about it, that is the only time or place I have eaten Cornish Game Hens. Of course it was served with two slices of enriched rainbow bread, LOL.

I always like to try and make it to Taqueria El Zarape when I go back to McAllen. The one by the old H.E.B. on N.10th and Nolana.
