How long do you want to ignore this user?
Guys - I need your help. I'll be driving from Arizona to Houston this coming week. I'm planning the trip and the Ozona/Sonora area is looking like it will be the first day's stopping point. Can anyone recommend which town might be better to stay in? If not Ozona/Sonora - maybe somewhere else along I-10. Any good hotels and/or restaurants you would suggest?

Thanks in advance!

Stick it out to Kerrville. Much better options on hotels and eating places. I think Ozona would be a better option than Sonora if that is as far as you can make it. Be careful on your trip!!

In Boerne, TX try the BackPorch - they have fried everything.
Exit like you are going to the Alamo RV park then keep driving on the Boerne loop(?) about a mile or less.

Simple down home cooking.

We used to eat at the original Macaroni Grill in Boerne, but it closed down. We found the Backporch just in time.

In Junction, TX you can get Lum's BBQ - south of I-10 about a mile or 2 on the west side of the road.

Ribs are their specialty - if you make it there before supper time there may be some left.

both places are spare. pop pills, get hookers, and blow through these towns. the only person i know from ozona married a guy that had the nerve to ask for the "weakest frozen drink" at a bar. stay clear of this type of mentality.

not sure the validaty of this thread anyways because you have already taken your trip.

Stick it out to Junction. Motel 8 up on the hill on the east side of Junction is nice and clean. Coopers BBQ on the Interstate is good. Cafe in town on west side serves a good breakfast.

Stick out until Junction and stay at either Days In or Comfort Inn. Both are visable from I-10. Eat at Lum's BBQ, Y-Heard Steak House, La Familia, or Gonzales's. All restaraunts are visible from Main Street (Hwy 83 South). Lum's is the best BBQ, La Familia & Gonzales's are both good Mexican (I prefer Gonzales's) and Y-Heard is very good steak, chicken fries, burgers, etc.

If you can make it to Kerville do so and stay at te YO guest ranch. If not stay in Ft. Stockton at the Hampton Inn

San ANgelo is only 55 mins N of Sonora, and 70 mins NW of Ozona....
