Guys, thanks for all the recommendations. Didn't get to do all of them as my idea of a 'free saturday' was different than my wife's. I was enlisted to help set up for the wedding which I was happy to do so, but was definitely a change of plans.

Had just enough time to drive around buffalo gap and take in some great views, as well as stop by Taylor County Taphouse near the hotel. They had liter glass octoberfest beers, Stagg Jr whiskey, and were willing to put on the A&M game. Was a great time. I definitely passed y'alls suggestions onto fellow out of towners so they were not in vain.
