Since the MISD bond failed, does anyone know what that means for the future Ranchland country club? I went ahead and joined the club a month ago since initiation fees were so low, hoping it would be around for at least a few years. Now it seems likely it will be but no one seems to know for sure.

Thoughts? Anyone with actual inside knowledge of the situation?

It'll be a long while before anything gets built there. For the moment, MISD still owns the property and are leasing it back to previous owners.

I'm still flabbergasted the bond didn't pass.

Channel 9 has a video of the board meeting. Watch it. They certified the vote. Done deal.

Board meeting? As in school board? Why would they be able to to certify anything?

If someone certified the results you can fully expect legal action to tie things up until someone answers the vote total question.

The county did purchase new voting machines to comply with paper ballot trail recommendations.

Rumored certain precinct electronic vote tallies double counted in the initial result totals.

I watched a Facebook live video of the Board meeting. I figured it was recorded. I guess not. Channel 7 or 2 might have a video, not sure.

But crazy sequence of events.

My understanding is the pro-bond group will try to pass it again at some point in the near future, and this time it will likely suffer a crushing defeat.

It's either this, or throw up about 200 portables across town, pray for a bust and about 30k in families leave town, or raise MISD tax rates.


The advocacy group saying "we don't need this, we need to pay teachers more" are insane.

I think there is a good case to be made on both sides. This bond was ridiculous and was pushed and funded not by the tax payers but by the groups that stood to benefit the most from it passing. The side that says we don't need to pass anything also have their heads in the sand. If they go back and rework the proposed bonds it may stand a chance of passing, but as of now if they simply put this same bond back up for a vote I guarantee it will be overwhelmingly defeated.

Which is fine by me since I just was curious how long i would get to play golf at Ranchland.

Who is the "outsider" group that would stand to benefit? I mean, that statement in of itself is ridiculous enough. MISD has significant needs to update a bunch of schools and expand capacity to serve the large influx of children that have moved in over the past 10 years. That fact, IMO, is indisputable. Any argument against the bond needs to start with a caveat "yes, expansion is needed, but..." and go from there or it loses all credibility from my perspective.

Glad that episode is over.

I'm still not sure how Deborah Land kept her job through this whole mess.

But it's whatever, I'm going to go to Ranchland and celebrate.

Just be prepared for the next bond election.

What does this board want to see in the next bond?

I want them to build what they need, but I don't pay taxes there. I am a electrical contractor that would benefit by doing the school projects. We do quite a bit of bid work in Midland, so we are there every day. So that is why I was wanting it to pass. We all have our own selfish reasons. :-)
