My wife and I are wanting to move to the Alpine/Ft. Davis area. We have always wanted to buy land and start homesteading and feel like this area has everything we are looking for. Anyone have recommendations on finding a job out there? I currently work for an energy company and have a Mechanical Engineering degree. I'm very willing to change industries and realize that a big pay cut is probably inevitable.

schools and border patrol are the big employers out here. Is working remote with your current job a possibility?

We were out there last week. Big Bend Brewery said they were hiring. Not a whole lot of energy related jobs in the area. If you can turn your degree into a teaching certificate, might have better luck.
