Announced today that he would be retiring. Heck of a legacy he leaves behind. Not sure who will replace him.

Brad McCoy comes to mind. A lot to live up to that's for sure for whoever takes it.

I think the most likely option is for Del Van Cox, who's been Warren's OC since he was at Rotan, to get the promotion. Bob Shipley's name has been thrown around by the local news, but I'd be surprised if it's not Cox.

He is getting run out of town.....leaving a bad legacy. More to the story.

Laws, I moved to CS after being in Abilene 35 years. I hadn't heard about this. Can you elaborate a little in the story?

One of the fired Wall Coaches who went on to win state elsewhere.

Hope the reasons aren't to controversial. I liked him.

Rockdoc, I don't feelcomfortable or proper saying too much on the Warren front. I will say Abilene/AISD has taken a hit lately on character and morals. The AISD superintendent resigned this month as well. I'm frankly glad this is taking place because the young adults deserve much better.

That's ok, I have lots of friends and my business partner still lives there so I'm sure I can find out. But your reply is fairly easy to read between the lines. Hate to hear that though.

Jason Herring won state in Sonora after he left Wall, then again in Refugio.

I really hope Steve isn't involved in any of that type stuff. I was on the board at Rotan when our micromanaging supe made things unbearable here. Del Van's first job was here. They did a really good job here and really cared about the kids.

As did Warren but he was before my time. I played for Herring.

Warren isn't involved in any of the current controversies that the super intendent resigned over.

West Texan, you are correct he is not involved in the superintendent drama, Warren has his own drama. Point is there is a culture problem at the highest levels in Abilene. Fortunately they are addressing the issues.

I'm well aware of the issues going on in AISD and at Abilene High. But, the stuff with the super intendent is out there in the news for people to find and wanted to clarify that Warren isn't involved in any of that.

Your initial post seemed to imply to me at least that coach Warren has similar issues to the superintendent's issues. Is that sn incorrect assumption on my part?
Wrong emoticon.

Warren is not involved with the superintendent mess, he has his own mess. The only tie is both are getting excused due to poor choices and both are in AISD leadership roles. Sure he is retiring, but that is not the case. He is getting asked to leave while the seat isn't too hot. I wouldn't say he is leaving a good legacy and I don't think anyone else would if you knew the story. What the superintendent did is illegal and what Warren did is not, but very poor choices.

I'm by no means defending Warren's tomfoolery, but when people think back on his time as head coach they're going to remember how he reserected the program and won a state title. From a football perspective, he leaves behind a tremendous legacy.
