Alan Henry up about 10ft, now ~75% full. Not really Petroplex, but definitely a good weekend spot for those of us that live here.

Any of that water gonna be sent downstream to Spence and Ivie?

USGS Info

Google Maps

Gone up 35 feet in two days. The little town of Gail (Borden County) has received 18+ inches of rain in the last three days. That would be the normal yearly rainfall.

Lake has gone from essentially dry to 80,000 acre feet of water storage. My handy-dandy calculator tells me that's about 26 Billion gallons of water. From 2.5% full to 26% full in days, and it's still raining.

My mom's family used to have a cabin there when I was a kid. When I was at A&M, I went by on one trip home to see it again. They were grazing cattle in front of the dock where we used to fish and ski. An electric cattle fence was tied to the corner post of our dock.

Amarillo TV said water was going over the spillway, but best I can tell, it's
still about 21 feet from full. I wonder if they were referring to Bull
Creek. That's a paralell creek that is dammed and has a canal to divert
to Thomas. So Thomas has about 20 more feet to go before water goes further downstream.

Looks like JB Thomas may be holding as much as OH Ivie before this event is over.
Amazing.
But Pecos is gonna get whacked.

This is incredible news for water quality for CRMWD customers.

Thomas water with all that red clay makes the plants operate that much more efficiently as it loves coagulants and settling all sorts of stuff out. Not to mention it blends down the nastiness that is Spence.

I would not be surprised to see a big bump in water quality (and taste) over the next two weeks or so.

There's a bunch of water flowing in the colorado in Colorado City. Spence should see some water starting Friday.

JB Thomas level is down from yesterday

They must be releasing water to spence. And a lot of it..

This one shows -.03

Why wouldn't they release water if Spence doesn't rise?

Thomas is at its highest level since 1987
Predmid

They aren't. The watershed that feeds spence is large, but it takes a while to get downstream.

-0.03 feet is less than a half inch. That could be due to pumping, evaporation, temperature change of the water, who knows.

Also, the source information that waterdatafortexas.org (a Texas Water Development Board site) is the place I get my charts which is the USGS stream and lake gauges.

Oh I know. But the fact that it is dropping at all, given the still large inflows, made me wonder if they are releasing.

I can see the district sending some of that down to Spence at some point
Predmid

EDIT:

My best guess would be that the earthen portions of the dam which had been dry for so long are starting to reabsorb moisture.
Captain Pablo
How long do you want to ignore this user?

A dirt dam is absorbing faster than the inflow?

Hmmm
CanyonAg77

How many hundred acres of lake bed are absorbing the moisture ?

1. the lake level isn't dropping. You can see on the USGS site that the levels continue to rise over the last two days, albeit at a very reduced rate.
Captain Pablo
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
It is not dropping now

It did drop .03' during that 24?hour period between those readings on the 24th and 25tj

That's what I wondered if they am have had a release, even a short one
Captain Pablo
How long do you want to ignore this user?

I just checked that link, and it is now showing a .08' rise from the 24th to 25th

Perhaps it was wrong and has been corrected or they are showing snapshots from different times of the day
Predmid

SPENCE IS UP!

About 9,000 acre-feet.

And the latest on JB Thomas
