I have a final interview in Midland in a few days that I feel pretty confidently about. Anything about the area I should know before hand or be prepared for? Im coming from the Houston area and have had family in Midland/Odessa my whole life so I know environmentally what to be ready for but anything I should be ready for as far as the town goes?

Start looking at housing ASAP.
There seems to be more properties than before, but the prices are still quite high for what you get.
Budget about $1000/mo for a nice 1 BR/1BA apartment.

What area is the job located in Midland?
Downtown, Claydesta, North Loop250, West Loop250 I-20, or inside the loop, or between Midland/Odessa ?

Beware of the driving out here, no so much a traffic thing, just an occasional @$$hole driving thing.

Good Luck.

There is a car accident every day in midland. Drive safe. Other than that, it ain't a bad little town. Haven't been to a Mexican food joint yet that I didn't like. Welcome and I hope ya get the yob!

in addition to the above...

1) the customer service can be bad at some places.
2) if you're single, you better find something to do in your free time. make some friends (with benefits?).

I don't think $1000 will get you a very nice apartment. I think you'd be looking at $1200-1300 for one of the new places. $1000 can get you in one of the many older but well maintained places.

For instance, Waterford Ranch is leasing their smallest 1BR (597 sq ft) for $1490+

I pay $1000 for my ghetto ass apartment (Avalon Springs). Though the interior have been remodeled and we got new appliances so they're not too bad.

The job is right off downtown and the wife and I have been scouting apartments. Doesn't seem like we'll be able to get anything more than 700sqft without paying through the nose.

I'll find out if I got the job and will be relocating later this month. I do think I crushed that interview though!

if that one falls through, it is hard to NOT have a job out here.

Thank you everyone for correcting my "about $1000" comment. I only know apartments started in that range and many people are shocked when they hear $1000 for a 1BR/1BA. It is actually much worse apparently.
You guys are in these apartments, so you know what you can get for these. I was just trying to get the heads up out there that apartments are small and expensive.
OP, Good luck on the job.

I'm in Aviare Place too. $1100/mo for 1br/1ba. Frustrating to see them dump money into landscaping near the entrance while my appliances are practically rotting away and the countertops have no finish remaining.

Location is great though.

I might consider a short term lease of a room to a person who is looking for a place. I am 30- so getting a Tommie long term probably wouldn't work. I will check boards to see if anyone is disparate.
