Shifter cable in my car broke (thankfully while parked) and needed to be replaced. Had it towed to Lone Star per AAA's recommendation. Coworkers also told me good things about the shop. Well, they quoted me $930 for the shifter cable replacement($370 for the part and $125 x 4hrs for labor+tax). I told them to forget about it and paid the $130 diagnostic fee.
I then had it towed to a dealership, who quoted me $410 - $260 for the part and $150 for labor. A $500 difference! This may be Midland, where prices are expected to be higher, but a $500 difference is ridiculous.
Just a word of caution if you're ever looking to get your car fixed. Either fix it yourself or take it elsewhere.
