How long do you want to ignore this user?
I recently just got a job offer in Midland, and am looking at moving there by June. The only apartment I've been able to find available so far is in Odessa. They are called the High Plains Apartments located at 3727 Andrews Highway.

I've never been to Odessa so I was wondering how this part of town is? Is it safe? Is there plenty of places for food/entertainment nearby?

Thanks, and any input on other areas I should be looking would be greatly appreciated!

Housing is an absolute B!+ch out here right now

I've never been to Odessa so I was wondering how this part of town is? Older part of Odessa
Is it safe? Not entirely sure being older
Is there plenty of places for food/entertainment nearby? Lots of fast food nearby - walking distance.

Thanks, and any input on other areas I should be looking would be greatly appreciated!

Northeast and far east Odessa is the newer area, and probably unavailable.

Northwest Midland is the newer & nicer area.

Drive home to Midland from work in Odessa every day - 20-25 minutes for 20 miles.

Andrews is 40 minutes north, guy I work with drive this every day. 40-45 minutes.

Big Spring - small town, decent housing and a good Aggie Club.

Keep looking in Midland. Don't want to be in Odessa if you have to. You don't want to commute everyday. Ask your employer to help you out.

Is Sinclair Ave a decent part of town? I think I may have found something.

Second the Midland idea. Especially if the only place you found was on Andrews. Don't quote me but everything on Andrews was trashy if I remember right. I was born and raised there and despise it to the utmost, and the sad thing is I hate it even more now that the oil biz has taken off past 2/3 years. I go back once a year maybe for the obligatory visit mom/dad at xmas and after just two days I'm itching to leave.

Thanks! I think I miraculously found a place in Midland. I will be headed up there in mid June and would be glad to buy a few rounds for anyone interested in meeting up!

Sinclair between about Western and Midkiff is old Midland but nice. There are some in the 2200 block that have seen their better days, but still ok.

That area is good. Thats close to where I was saying. Western crosses Sinclair right in there. It will be older, probably built in the 50's or early 60's, but a nice neighborhood. You did get lucky.

housing is stupid bad right now and won't improve any time soon.

if this boom continues for another few years, we are potentially looking at an additional 30k people in the next 5 years.

the 2010 census for midland was a hair above 100k. Population estimate right now is north of 130k. 30% jump in 3 years with no signs of stopping.

There are a lot of hold ups right now, the biggest is the water. We have none.

Thomas is up 4 inches or so from the rains last week.

Spence gained about the same

Ivie is up a foot (WOOO).

Just checked this forum to find out the housing situation in Midland area. It sounds like it is one big cluster right now based on everything I've read.

You would be correct.

Anecdotal evidence of the housing market:

An acquaintence of mine was selling a house and put up a sign at 10:00 am.

11:00, a person drives by, offers a little under asking, inside unseen.

12:30 person drives by, finds the asking prices, say's let's make a cash deal for asking price. Closed the very next day.

RIDICULOUS.

You hear about it and think can it really be like that?
But when you actually talk to someone who went through it, and it still makes you say - Wow! That is crazy.

Just purchased my first home here. Offered more than asking price. If you are purchasing, know that you are not making an investment...that price will come down quickly whenever the boom ends.

Thank God the interest rates are so low.
