I've noticed there are basically no rentals in Midland available. I am in the process of relocating out of Midland, and am considering renting my house out. It is a ~2100 sqft 3 bed 2 bath house in Plantation Hills. It is a pretty nice house, and I hate to move out of it. What are other rental houses going for now?

My wild ass guess is $2500 to $3000 per month. A guy a couple doors down from my parents (near HEB) is renting a 1600' 3/2 for $2100.

I would be very interested if you end up renting your house out. My fiance will be moving here in the winter time and we are over the apt stuff. Let me know what you end up doing. My email is username at yahoo dot com

If the house is nice, you won't find a better time to sell it. Do you want to be a long distance landlord?

I have a renthouse on the corner of Seaboard and Garfield. 2500sf 4/2/2. Needs some updating and it is on Garfield. I'm 6 months into a 2 yr lease at $1700/month. I could get more, but I have a really good tennant and will probably sell the house to this guy on a owner finance eventually.
I'm also thinking of selling the property to an investor.
Not familiar with your neighborhood, but I would think you could get $1800 to 2200 easy.

Midland Aggie - If you hear or see of any other rent houses let me know. I am in serious need of a house but do not want to buy in a market like this especially if I plan on being here no more then 2 years.

Aglaw, what are you looking for? Are you single, bringing family along, how much of a house do you need? What are you willing to pay?

I agree it is a very good time to sell, but the lack of rentals has me thinking I could make some extra money off of it for a while, and still sell later. I don't see the oilfield slowing down anytime soon, so I still think I could make some good money when I sell. Maybe I'm just being greedy, but with so few houses in midland, it is just something I'm considering.

I have lived here the past two years but in December my fiancé will be graduating with her RN from Texas and sill be relocating out here. We don't plan on having any kids anytime soon and we don't want to stay here longer then two years since we have all of our family in Houston. So with that being said, we wouldn't need something too big but we also don't want to live in a dump of a neighborhood so we are willing to pay a bit more to rent in a nicer area (I.e. north of the loop). If you got any advice please feel free to let me know.

1876 - when do you think you will start to rent the house, if you choose to go that route?

I am renting a 3 bedroom 2 bath on West Shandon for 1700 a month. I took it the same day it became available due to the lack of rental houses. It was by far the best deal that i could find. The next door neighbor is renting a 4bedroom 2 1/2 bathroom for 2250 a month. These homes are new builds, the inside quality is on par with a nice apartment. Nothing real fancy, but new.

1876, that's not greedy, it's just business.

Aglaw, I'll ask around.

Sounds like the two of you need to talk though.

We will be moved out of the house by June 11th. You would be able to move in anytime after that.

I'll shoot you an email later today. I'll also talk to my wife about it tonight. She's a little skeptical about the whole landlord idea. Maybe when I tell her it is another Ag that I met on a creepy internet site, she'll feel better about it.

Famous last words. I don't know if this will last a few more months or a few more years, but it never lasts forever.
