So I'm not a stranger to the Permian Basin, but I'm hoping for some new suggestions on places to try while I'm out there through President's Day. I will do plenty of damage at Taco Villa (mostly lunch) and I'm sure Barn Door and Cattlemen's will be suggested. So if anyone has other places to suggest(I still need to try Wall Street) I'd greatly appreciate it.

FYI - Cattlemans is closed. The last I saw it was an empty lot.

Try Martinez Bakery on Florida east of Big Spring.
Get a Brisket or Ham Torta sandwich with cheese.

I don't think Barn Door, Cattleman's (has been torn down for a while), or Taco Villa would be on my "must try" list for an out-of-towner.

I usually take out-of-towners to Cancun Grill, KD's Bar-b-q, or the Petroleum Club. There are plenty of good mexican food places. The Bar makes a good burger. Wall Street is good, but I find Petroleum Club steaks better. The Garlic Press also has above average food. For breakfast burritos Oscar's or El Burrito are good.

Those are some of the places I like.

I really like Wall Street, The Bar and La Mission. Those would be my top three if I was entertaining. They all have good drinks, great wait staff and excellent food.

everything suggested and I'd add Tampicos, Martinez, Dona Y Anitas, Triple Threat (for bar food & drinks. One of the few bars outside of The Bar with good service still).

Caramba's has great enchiladas, the best in town. Barn Door in Odessa for steaks, Luigi's for Italian, Kuo's for Chinese, Dona Anitas for carne guisada, Michaels or Bob's for burgers. At Bob's Better Burger get the double meat double cheese with jalapeno's (affectionately called super jap burger by regulars). Wall Street is great but you will wait for a table.

is la bodega still open? haven't eaten there since we moved from odessa when i was 7.

If you want a good philly cheese steak get the bomber at Michaels.

i like the triple threat pepper philly, personally...

Can't miss downtown Midland spots:

1. Wall St

2. Casa Del Sol (for my money, and I have 30 years experience eating Mexican food ) best Mexican in town by far.

3. Cancun Grill


4. King and I (if you are in mood for Asian).

5. The Bar - great food for a bar

Luigis is also really good if you are in mood for crispy thin crust pizza! Their lasagna is not bad either. IMO.

Another place I always forget about: Pizzeria Venti

Great upscale (ish) single slice pizza and salads. This is the kind of place that has great salads w strawberry, apple etc slices, walnuts, and blue cheese crumbles. (lots of variety).

Super Tacos on Florida is good. I also like Taste of Chicago on Lamesa and Illinois. Good hot dogs and italian beef sandwiches.

the hotdog stand outside on neely and midland drive on the weekends cannot be beat.

If you go to Wall Street, try the Gumbo!!! Best I've ever had and I grew up on the coast.

Agreed 100%. Hands down best in town. I would check out Caramba's for sure

Its nice to know that even after living in Midland for 19 years and enjoying the food the whole time I still have not had the best yet.

Like I have said before, Midland's worst Mexican food is better than elsewhere's best.

if you want good bbq, go to KD's. but use the word "slice" and not "piece" or else they will give you way too much food

Although it is a chain, Genghis Grill is a nice change of pace if you are not feeling steak or mexican. Oh, and if you are going to KD's, don't come without a few big bills in the wallet.
