Spending a week in San Angelo...any great local restaurants? Other than Fort Concho..any can't miss attractions?

Haven't eaten over there in a while, but go get measured and order a pair of boots from M L Leddys. You won't regret it.

We ate at Zenters Daughter about six months ago it was terrible,Cork and Pig has been good everytime we've been.

Henry's Diner is great Mexican food.

Twin Mtn or Western Skies over sand flea supporting Zentner's Daughter any day.

Franco's at 23rd and MLK for Mexican.

Steak fingers from Charcoal House?

Then take some Mikulik sausage home with you in a cooler. You won't regret it!!

Franco's is some of the best Mexican food i've ever had. Ever. Fuentes is fair as well. You gotta pack heat when you go there but it's worth it.

zentner's was never all that great in my opinion... but some people swear by it. Twin Mountain was the best steak in my opinion by far. if you have a chance try bonzai garden or ichibans as well.

Corner Stop burritos is pretty good.


As far as attractions... there's not a lot. The riverwalk is a pretty place to go check out at night. Angelo State University has made a bunch of renovations the last few years and is a pretty campus in and of itself. you could walk the whole thing in an hour or so.

Corner Stop is good. I love the steak bits/scraps from Zentners. Everyone swears by Franco's but it is not my favorite. I like Armenta's.

then you're doing it wrong. not that armenta's is bad.

Please use the term Zentner's Daughter as the original, in Angelo, Zentner's is gone....

Of course the original in Rowena has been gone a loooong time too...

Armenta's is good too, but Franco's is so true to what Angelo TexMex used to be in the early '70's. You know, in the good ol' day!

Nope. IIRC, it is closer to 67. Lowake used to have two steak houses, but neither were Zentners.

Well..just got back from San Angelo and here's an outsider's report. My wife and friends were there for ten days..I was only there for four. Many comments from the folks on different restaurants. Here goes:

1. Far and away, everyone loved Francos. Long line, but worth the wait.

2. Fuentes downtown was decent mexican food.

3. Charcoal house for breakfast was good.

4. Surprisingly...lots of folks like the steaks at the Wharf includng me. Can't recommend their "seafood."

5. Everyone hated Western Sky steakhouse (someone said same owner as Franco's)

Sure appreciate everyone's suggestions. Wish I could have tried more places..but was a great trip..wife won a world championship.

never much liked western skies, but i went there maybe 2x in 25 years of living there. should have made the trip to twin mountain.

i never ate at the wharf once in all that time, but i'm allergic to most seafood. So it never seemed to agree with me to even be near there.

I've eaten in San Angelo a couple of times over the past 6 months and would vote for:

Cork & Pig
Twin Mountain (rustic, but good food)
Bonsai

I was not fond of Zentner Daughters.

make the short trip to rowena to the turnrow bar and grill

To the die hard Franco's fans, I heard the other day they are bringing a location to Knickerbocker. Don't know exactly where though.

is the cork and pig that good? when we left it was the texas coffee company and we just never seem to make it there to try it out when we come back.

somebody from Angelo needs to move to central texas and show them how to do mexican food. nothing here compares... but that goes for most of the state.

c-jags- You are correct. Nobody gets it like Angelo TexMex rest cooks...

Closest I have found is Los Nortenos in Bryan and I don't recall any mom and pop places in Central Texas...

Pack Saddle is good for burgers and onion rings.
