I know this may be far fetched to think about. I am planning a weekend driving trip from Austin with the girlfriend to San Angelo to visit my old homestead and to relatives cemetary in Ballinger.

Any suggestions?

Most certainly...for something totally differnt look up The Chicken Farm Art Center.

http://chickenfarmartcenter.com/

Inside the center is the Silo House Restaurant and Inn at the Art Center B & B

http://innattheartcenter.com/

Very good food!! I believe the restaurant is owned by a husband and wife who cook and entertain. Typically a $28-$35 4-course menu and I've always been very impressed. If you stay there you will of course have breakfast provided (and I am assuming it's tasty based on the other food). It would be a very unique experience. If you go the first weekend of the month they always have exhibits and shows on Saturday at the center.

Some co-workers stayed at Sealy Flats in downtown and loved it.

This would be very cool as well. I didn't know it existed until this year and seems to be one of the "cool" places to hang out for adults. It supposedly has good food and always has cool concerts on the porch outside. Depends on what you would want I guess.

HirschfeldAg,

My last name is Estes. My Dad grew up there, graduated in 1962 from High school and went to A&M. I lived in San Angelo from 1977-1984. Spent may weekends and weeks at my Grandparents house. Their names were Coy and Willie Estes. They are both from Talpa, Texas and married/lived in Ballinger all their lives. They lived on Broadway Ave. and Eubank St. My Grandfather Coy had his own Cati pillar bulldozer and cleared trees and stock tanks for a living. He served in WWII but never went overseas. He was stationed at Mathis Field(Goodfellow) during the war as an airplane mechanic. He passed away in 1986 at 70 years old, and my Grandmother followed in 1988 at 72 years of age. My dad just passed 6 months ago at age of 66. I have no more ties out west. I live in Austin now. All my relatives in Big Spring and Brownwood have all passed on. I miss the west Texas days in my childhood.

Hirsch...Despite the Metal Industry irony involved with the following question:

Would you happen to be a Mueller?

Thanks Hirsh! I always welcome someone who still remembers people I have met in my childhood. I spent many days on Elm creek fishing. My grandfather and dad would pull big yellow cats out below the dam in the city park. I spent may summers diving off the high dive in the city pool. Fished in all the stock ponds between Ballinger and Talpa where my grandfather did his dozzer work. I would always walk to Allsups to get a burrito and a carton of cigs for my grandmother, and along the way would always know where the teenagers would stash their playboys in the alleys under the metal garbage cans. Ha!

Wow! The memories are too many to write
