So I just found out about a possible job oppurtunity in Odessa, and just wanted to know a little about the area. I've been there quite a few times but never for an extended period. What are the utility prices like, apartments/condos/townhomes for rent, etc.? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks and Gig'Em!

Midland Aggie, where is the house and whats the price range? My buddy and his fiance are looking into possibly buying a house. I can only rent right now. Any good suggestions, for EITHER town? Condo,duplex,home whatever? I need some type of backyard since I have a 65-70 lb. lab. Thanks!

Would you/your client entertain the idea of renting that house to 3 good aggies for a few months if CWC gets his job? I am looking to buy a house soon but I want to wait till the fiancee is the wife and buy it together.

cwc, my house is at 2210 seaboard. Nice part of old midland. Berkshire place subdivision. 4 bdrm, 2 bath, 2 car garage, about 2500 sf. asking 235K.
If you needed an apartment, I would say rent in midland and look at the apartments on the loop. Don't know about houses to keep a dog. Just get a realtor to look for you.

Since I will get shot down for a reccomendation of the oasis of West Texas being in Big Spring, try Andrews. The school system is awesome, facility wise. I wired the new football lights and the new baseball field and there was a nice housing addition directly north of those facilities.

So I have gotten called back for the Second Interview for tomorrow morning. Supposedly I'm the only one that is getting called back.

They speak the truth; don't live in Odessa. My dad's been working in Odessa for a couple years now, and he drives 45 minutes every day from our house in Greenwood. When my mom suggested moving to Odessa to save time and money, my dad and I vetoed it immediately.
Oh, and if you're looking for good schools, Greenwood's a great choice, but it is a long drive to Odessa every day.

How is the grass looking on the new fields in Big Spring? I have heard some bad rumors about the sprig job.

I live in east Odessa. It's not that bad.

The complex is piss poor. The GC from Lubbock sucks, in my opinion. It looks like a 20 year old facility with new fencing, that has not been watered. The grass looks bad, there are dark spots all over the field (lighting), the concrete has blistered up in numerous places, the concrete forms were crooked and the asphalt is going to have to be cut and patched. This is not the GC's fault though. Very bitter taste in my mouth about this project. I was on the Girl's Softball board for three years while this was being sold to the public and they got a piece of crap.

Didnt want to bash too hard but I heard the same thing. Not sure why it was even signed off on.

Northwest Midland is a nice area for working in Odessa, I have been doing that for 4 years now.
It takes 20-25 minutes to go 20 miles.
My neighborhood, Crestgate (also the main street thru it) has one or two houses for sale. A LARGE soccer park (Butler on Bluebird) is right out of my backyard.

Midland is MUCH better to live in, esp. for people who already have families. The commute? 20 minutes or so... well worth it.

Seems to be the general consensus. AT LEAST go visit the area. If you must, east Odessa is the best option.

East Odessa is a fine place to live. Don't let all these folks convince you otherwise.

I do know a bunch of folks that live in East Odessa which is a nice area and convenient to Midland workers.

Pay attention to what schools are listed for housing, some Odessa homes have kids that are in the Midland ISD due to County line.

If your going to live in Odessa, you should check out the newer development off of Billy Hext Road, a subdivision called Stone Gate. Great homes out there, other wise move to Midland.
