So, I've taken a few different routes. Can any beat 4 hours?
I did this by taking Ranch Rd. 765 out of town. Headed N on Ranch Rd. 45 for a couple of miles, then headed E on Ranch Rd. 574 all the way to Goldwaithe.
From there, I took 84 to Gatesville. In Gatesville I crossed over onto 36 towards Temple.
Went through Temple, got on 190. Took 190 all the way to Hwy 6 in Hearne. The only reason I did this in 4 hrs is because I was going 90 the entire stretch of Ranch Rd. 765.

Any suggestions for a legal route that takes less than and hour and a half?

we go one of two ways (i can't get you there in 4 hours)

87 to brady, turn left at the court house then get on 190 there and ride it all the way to Hearne

How we usually go

Longer but more scenic

I grew up off of 765 and have seen my fair share of speeders through there.

Had a friend that lived out at Millersview that did 110 all the way in to Angelo for church 2x a week.

He told me he killed AT LEAST 1-2 deer a week. His truck agreed w/ his claim usually.

I haven't gone to Hearne in a long time. I used to take 36 south to Caldwell and come in on 21 to 46 and loop around and come in by Easterwood.

Now I come in 79 from Shreveport to Buffalo to I-45 to Madisonville and then into BCS.

Fastest I ever did the SJT-BCS trip was 3-3/4 hours when i was 17. Normal in a car is 4-1/2 and in motorhome is 5-1/4.

And as noted, Bambi can really screw up your time......

87 to Brady,190 to 36(Caldwell),21 to 47 to 60. But that's only half the trip if you're coming from EP. I-10 to 67 then etc. Only 40 miles further but well worth seeing friends in SA.

Fastest way to CS from temple is Hwy 53 to the east and then fm 485 into hearne. That will save you roughly 15 min.

Edit to add that you only have to slow down for a couple of sharper than normal turns and the stop sign at hwy 77. traffic is very light. Also not a place you need to go when low on gas.

The fastest we ever made the trip from CS to Vancourt was 3 hours and 45 minutes. It was just one of those lucky days when no DPS or other traffic on the road. It was our normal CS, Hwy 6 to US 79 to Hwy 29 to Brady to US 87. That was in 1972. Not near as many cars on the road as there is now.

Of course Vancourt is 25 minutes away from SA normally. Oh, ....... And the reason for the hurry was some hot dates in Rowena on Friday night. It was worth the chance of a speeding ticket. Oh, the good old days.
