Alvin was one of the pioneers of talk radio in the 70's on KPRC radio afternoons. His style was great. Not very political except some local stuff. Really knew Houston. Could tell you all about Houston street names. Knew who Stella Link was, why Buffalo Speedway was named and could pronounce San Felipe the Houston way.
Many years ago someone asked Rush about the development of AM talk radio. He mentioned Alvin and a few others ( Bob Grant in NY) as the true fathers of talk radio. When possible I always listened to Alvin and called in quite a bit, he loved stories and history.
Got to meet him a few times, he was a true gentleman and a Houston treasure.
There is still one Houston legend left..Paul Berlin. He was one the top 40 AM radio jocks in the days when al we had was KILT and KNUZ radio here. We would listen to eiter Russ Knight " The Wierd Beard" or Paul. Paul has been n radio for 50 years and is still kicking. I have had the great pleasure of meeting him as he is also a friend of Dan Patrick

I liked Craig Roberts 'Alvin at Night' segment on Sports Sunday.

Alvin had his Alvin at night gig on Ch 13, where he would go around town to events in the evenings wearing a tuxedo, the symphony, some restaurant, a concert, art gallery etc.

Craig had a video of main street Alvin at night and every week he would have his 'Alvin at Night' segment where they would cut away to the same night shot of downtown Alvin.
