I hope they keep the Starbucks. That corner would be lacking without it.

They're going to go after the River Oaks theatre next

I think they are sparing the River Oaks theatre and the Blue Door (thank gawd).

I've been told that River Oaks Theater is staying. But there will be another Starbucks in the new Barnes and Noble. That makes three in one block.

I've posted this multiple times, but I'll post it again ...

- Starbucks is staying; there will be 3 on that corner once the B&N goes in.

- Once River Oaks Shopping Center phase 1 is complete, Alabama Theater is toast.

- Weingarten plans to preserve the River Oaks Theater facade, but not the theater itself.

my source: someone very close to Weingarten.

Is the Blue Door a swinger's bar? I think I remember someone telling me that once before.

At least we are consistent in destroying our historical buildings.

I thought I heard recently that the River Oaks Theater got deemed a historical landmark. Doesn't that prevent it from being torn down?

From the Houston Business Journal:
quote:
Even with the historic designation, the city's current preservation ordinance allows a designated landmark to be demolished after the owner waits 90 days.

No, it's just a make-out bar.

Can't stop progress. Lots of money to be made. Besides it was a strip center after all. Not like it was a old county courthouse or something.
