How long do you want to ignore this user?
I've been in a new house for about 5 months and I think I'm ready to switch to Gexa. Is this a good idea? Does anyone else use them?

They have really pushy, cult-like sales people; kind of like Green Mountain.

I use them.. horrible customer service, but I don't think they're alone on that one. It is nice getting the One Pass miles with each statement. I think I'm paying 14.82 cents per kwh as of right now.

I do. I also changed a few months after I moved to a new house. Switchover process took a little while (maybe 2 mos), but it went smoothly in that there were no billing or service issues.

No complaints. Decent rates, airline miles...good enough for me. I haven't dealt with their customer service, as I have had no reason to talk to them (which is a good thing).

We use Gexa, and they are fine. The miles are a good deal and if you actually have service issues (like no power) you probably have to call Centerpoint or whoever is the delivery agent.

Make sure you ask them for their lowest rate. Mine had creeped up into the 14.5 range, so I called them and they lowered it to 10.5

Thanks for the info. The one-pass miles are intriguing.

Aggietd,
I've been with Gexa for about 3-4 years now and never had a problem.

I also use the Continental miles... 2 miles for every dollar spent w/ Gexa.

Is Gexa cheaper than TXU?

Just watch the $5 usage fee. Is it included in the rate or extra?

Example: 10 cents per KwH in the 1000 KwH bucket would make your bill $100. (the usage fee is included in the rate)

If the $5 usage fee is extra, then your bill would be $105, so effectively your rate is 10.5 cents per KwH in the 1000 KwH bucket.

Keep this in mind when you are evaluating rate offers that seem identical.

Me: I'm calling because my rate has gone up quite a bit since I've been with Gexa. I'd like to see if you can do better.

Gexa: let me check....click click click...we can do 10.5

Me: Does that require a commit or anything?

Gexa: No. Are you interested in 10.5?

Me: Yes. Yes, I am interested in you reducing my rate by nearly 40% just because I called.

I did that in February and it never took.

I called today and they said my rate would be lowered from 14.8 to 10.5.

We'll see if it ever actually does.

in any event, thanks for the headsup !

That sucks. You missed out on maybe $200 in savings.

Just got a new bill from them today. 10.6. Plus a few bucks in fees that aren't included in that rate

Had them for 3 years, they are pretty cheap. Hey, the great thing about electricity is that it's all the same.

I've mentioned it before but I will mention it again. The rate for their one pass program is higher than without. i called them to confirm when i first signed up with them and i called them to confirm a couple of months ago just to see if anything changed.

i read a post on another forum where someone did the math. he said the higher rate was VERY close to being the same price that you could BUY one pass miles at.

not worth it in my book...

cclearman, golferag,
Are either of you in the OnePass/Gexa program?

bikrack, that's odd... I emailed Gexa cust support and asked that very question, I have it in writing from Gexa that being in Onepass does not cause you to have a higher rate.
SJEAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Gexa quotes the same rate on their website under the OnePass and the non-OnePass options. It wasn't like that when I signed up 7-8 mos ago.
Sazerac
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yes, I get OnePass miles. It's the same rate.
bigjag19
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Actually, if you use the low flat rate for a year, like I am, you do not get OnePass miles.

I would rather the lower rate, I get plenty of miles.
Sazerac
How long do you want to ignore this user?
what rate are you paying?
SJEAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Is your lock-in rate better than .106? .106 and miles sounds pretty tough to beat. Lock-in rates can be a negative if rates are trending lower.
