I'm bringing the kids down to Houston for a couple days. Which waterpark is better?

I think Splashtown probably has more/bigger rides.

Schlitterbahn hands down. Unless Splashtown has improved from about 3 years ago.

Splashtown sucks. Make the drive if you love them.

Wrong. Schlitterahn Galveston Island is actually a pretty good waterpark. I'd say it's better than everything else in Texas except its Daddy in New Braunfels.

They just expanded SBGI this summer.

Checking Weather.com it looks like its been raining quite a bit down there. Do they close down all the rides when it rains or just for lightning? I wouldn't want to drive our asses down there just to stand there at the gate all day.

A contingency for the Galveston trip in case of rain would be that Schliterbahn is right next to Moody Gardens and you would have several in door activities you could do over there should the weather not cooperate.

Yeah, I thought about that. I'm not sure that my kids would appreciate that as much. I think I'm going to postpone this until next week. Hopefully the weather will be better then.

Rain does put a damper on the day but the good thing about galveston is that they only shut down in lightning...the park was designed to provide covering when needed in light rain, cold and other weather. It was the one of the first waterparks to build retractable awnings that span across the top of the lazy river as well as some rides and the interior of the park where the kids area is....Even with this feature nothing beats a sunny hot day at the water park though!

I lived down there for the past 5 years and had a season pass last season and loved every day i went.

Actually Schlitterbahn in Galveston has a roof over part of the park in case of rain. I took my daughter a couple of weeks ago and we had a blast.
