cafe rabelais - you'll have a guaranteed wait, but its very romantic and the food is excellent.

-Bistro Toulouse
-Tapas (Mi Luna, etc.) - just because you'll order different little things together and share - I think that would be fun especially if you're early in the relationship

if you really want to impress your date, do your own scouting. i would never take a recommendation and roll the dice on that.

i also am a big believer in knowing what sort of ambience/mood you want to set with the lady friend...

there are plenty of good places mentioned here. but on any given night, only the right few will work best

Ouisie's Table is a good call! I always forget about that place

FWIW - I didn't particularly care for Skyline at the Hilton Americas. It was too loud - from a large group of hotel guests that obviously had too many martinis over business dinner. Guess that would be hit or miss.

Catalan food is good, but not romantic.

My advice - Get married, then you can start going to places for the food instead of how trendy they are. I took my wife to Spain for about what it costs to eat at Catalan.

For a restaurant, I like Nelore Brazilian on Montross. But what can I say, I like to eat, and don't really care any more about drinking $11 blue drinks out of bronze jockstraps, or whatever the trend is these days...

Going to non-trendy places is also an option when single.

I think I've been to like 3 places mentioned on this thread. And one of them is Amazon.

I've not been to any of them!

Amazon Grill - You should go there. It's good and it's not expensive

My take on some restaurants that have been mentioned here:

De Marco's - best food in town, one of the most expensive $$$$

Catalan - great food, great wine list. $$$

Ibiza - Similar to Catalan, but maybe a little less expensive. I like the lamb here. $$$

Damians - Good restuarant that scales nicely (read: entres from about $10 to about $40)$$ - $$$

Quattro - overpriced, sub-par $$$$

Sullivan's - Pretty good value, I like the piano bar. $$ - $$$

If money is no object, I of course recommend Mark's. They will really, really take care of you. No more expensive then De Marco's. $$$$

If you are just looking to drop the most cash, Cafe Annie's is gret food, but super expensive.

I also like Sambuca if they have a band that is not too loud playing that night. I also like Azuma's next door, or the Fish in Midtown. $$

Da Marco's was tasty but expensive. Worth it though. The only downside of a date there is that the service was too good, smothering, and not leaving a lot of time for extended conversation. Of course, if you're worried about being able to keep up a conversation through dinner and want to let the food do the talking, it wouldn't be a bad idea.

If you want to be an adult but act like a horny high school kid in better clothes and with more $, Marfrelas it is!
