That whole Alvin ISD explosion is baffling to me. Iowa Colony used to be a sign that you saw on your way to go fishing that you thought was maybe a prison. Manvel was a one-stop-light "town" with a convenience store where you would stop on the way to dove hunting, which you did less than a mile away.

Iowa Colony was three sets of city limits signs with a speed zone in each so they could nab you when you sped up after leaving what you thought was the city limits.

They got busted by the state in the 90's for being a speed trap.

One of their cops was one of the guys that worked weekends and was part owner of Brazos Bend golf course.

That was a notorious speed trap. One of those clowns pulled in behind me at night and rode my ass hoping I would speed up. I didn't fall for that bullcrap. Was so glad when the State busted those crooks.

In the mid 90's a gal I knew was on staff at Clute Intermediate.

They had a staff development day and some speaker from Houston was scheduled to come talk to them and give some motivational/educational speech.

The speaker was late. The Principal got up in front of the staff and said "Well, Dr. ________ was late because they came down 288 from Houston and got pulled over in???" *motions to crowd*

*crowd responds*
"IOWA COLONY!!"

Everybody hated that place.
