It was bought out by Mike Calvert. End of an era. Tommie Vaughn was on the 1939 championship team.

Vaughan Automotive Group, which bought Mike Calvert Toyota in 2022, is the owner and they're - for some reason - rebranding Tommie Vaughn Ford as a Mike Calvert dealership.

The Tommie Vaughn Fooooo-ooord theme song will always play in my head.

I think its just a coincidence that the parent company of Mike Calvert Toyota is Vaughan Automotive which is a San Antonio area dealership group. Perhaps they didnt like that there as another dealership in Texas that happened to use the Vaughn name so they were happy to buy it out and rebrand it.

According to the linked article, Vaughan Automotive is owned by Shawn Vaughan and based out of Boerne.

Rumor on the Automotive Board is the family sold the physical dealership but not the name.

So Tommie Vaughn can re-emerge.

Not to be confused with other owners Bob Hobb, Jenn Nguyen or John Johnson, and Tommy Thomson.

I ran into the finance manager and I believe the head salesman - apparently the connection with Christine the 1Ags contact is no longer there.

The 2 I spoke with mentioned they came over from Joe Meyers ford. The ultimate plan is to move the dealership in 5 years to where the old northwest mall was. They want to expand and make it more of a volume dealership.

Nice. Folks in Normangee can hop on the high speed rail straight to the dealership and purchase a vehicle.

Always, man. That's sad to hear Christi sold me two trucks and who knows how many others on TA. Nice lady.

she will end up somewhere else soon I bet.

If true, that they are going to move, I guess that makes sense short term due to how much that land might be worth. But then you lose being the only dealership right smack in the middle of Houston basically.

Amazing that people still buy new cars at dealerships. Seems about as antiquated as watching network news at 10. I guess without new cars, there wouldn't be any used ones...

Well, when Tesla puts out a 1 ton truck that has a range of 768 miles, you'll be all set. Until then, franchise laws preclude us from rolling out to the Kentucky Truck plant and buying direct from Ford.

But I agree with you. I only buy new, so it would be super swell to log into the the ford website and just option out a truck how I want and pay for it or finance or whatever in my underwear drinking coffee at 9am.

You're forgetting about Knapp Chevrolet.

Also Aggie owned. Or used to be at least.

And the greatest naming rights deal in the history of A&M is by Bernie Richardson who owned a Chevy dealership on the Southwest Freeway near Sharpstown.

Not a knock on Bernie, but I bet more people read his name on a regular basis than any other named structure on campus. He stepped up in a big way at the time.

I was in the process of buying a new vehicle for the wife with Christy when this went down. I'd bought 2 trucks with her before. Still haven't gotten the wife a new ride yet.

Anyway, her insight was that Tommie Vaughn being an independent dealership didn't have the financial clout of the larger, multi-outlet corporate dealerships.

And like @BrazosDog02 noted the fact that almost all new car sales are controlled via the manufacturer-driven dealerships and distribution network keeps us all hostage. It's a legalized cartel and virtual monopoly.

I bought a new Pontiac Vibe in 2005 after saving up $3500 over 7 years on my GM Mastercard. Almost made it a mediocre deal.

Now that TV is gone what is the next best dealership for sales and service? Mac Haik is the suck and Helfman isn't much better.

Haven't used their service, but reproag (username here) at Appel Ford in Brenham is about as good and easy as it gets.

He works the Hyundai dealership next door as well. I bought an Elantra from him four years ago. Easiest sale ever.

Just because I love stirring the pot, is anyone buying from a Keating dealership?

There was a hell of a thread on them a few years ago on the Automotive Board.

Shawn Vaughan is a Baylor Bear.

Definitely in acquisition mode, bought Tejas Toyota, bought a dealer in CA, bought Tommie Vaughn, all in a few years. Already had a piece of Calvert Toyota and Toyota of Boerne.

no clue why they used Mike Calverts name for the ford store.

meanwhile group 1 is changing all their dealers names

cajunaggie08

Yup. Group 1 is going the AutoNation route where they want their brand to be the prominant featured thing. I kind of respect that more than pretending you're a local mom & pop dealer by using the previous guy's name. Houston is full of so many transplants its not like most local car buyers have ties to any of these legacy names family names. I don't care if its called Joe Myers Ford or was honest and called it Berkshire Hathaway Ford.
