Supposedly she accepted tickets to the World Cup and Bruno Mars which may have been against policy and the Chronicle is making it a big deal. Not sure what the deal is as journalists go to these things all the time. And Ch 2 seems to be having a LOT of personnel firing and issues. Hate to see her lose her job as she is easy on the eyes, plus it seems overblown.

How is the Chronicle still in business. Millions of stories the Chronicle could do on the corruption of Harris County. Yet, lets focus on a news anchor and improper benefits.

When a TV journalist gets something of monetary value from a person or organization whom they have / may do stories on above a base amount they are required to report the "gift" to the news director. At that point management makes the call. I have seen a number of times where "gifts" were too generous and returned. Failure to report a large gift is cause for disciplinary action or termination.

Yeah, this is standard in oil and gas jobs too. Anything over $200 basically needs to be cleared or made aware.

I don't think this is that big of a deal but also not a nothing burger.

I can see how a govt official giving gifts to a journalist/media member/news reporter that may potentially influence who and what news they report can be a conflict of interest.

DG isn't a journalist. She is just the pretty face that reads the words into the camera.

There is, and has been, something weird going on at kprc. They ran out a bunch of talent recently and I bet this is connected. DG had to know she would be recognized by someone at the events, so she wasn't trying to hide it. She got shanghi'ed. Probably cutting salary for on air talent and were looking for cause and found it.

Based on the pictures news personalities post on Instagram, I assumed they were all getting complementary tickets to all of these events. The gifts to local politicians are much more concerning to me than a news anchor getting concert tickets.

They can get gifts. They just have to disclose and likely if it's over a threshold value have to get pre-approval. The "issue" is that she likely violated company policy. Not a law or anything. But if any public figure accepted a gift over that threshold, which World Cup tickets would be, and didn't get pre-approval they are a ****ing idiot. Not like they won't be posting it all over social media, right?

Now....agree with you on politicians. I posted on another thread, but it's exponentially more concerning as they should be working for the good of the people, probably most susceptible to corruption, yet give zero ****s about corruption and passing any regulations governing themselves to reduce that risk of, or even the potential perception of, said corruption.

Good point. She probably got buzzed at a Happy Hour and said something offensive like "men can't get pregnant" or something and ticked off the head honchos. Goodness that whole world is garbage, every bit as bad as politicians but probably worse, because they are even dumber.
