With the NFL trying to gain traction in Europe, I'm surprised they haven't moved the summer league there.

Why are they called the Gamblers when sports betting isn't even legal in Texas

Originally part of the reincarnation of the USFL....old USFL franchise from the 80s coached by Jack Pardee with Jim Kelly as QB was the Houston Gamblers.

OMFG this will REALLY piss you off. Did you hear about the Chicago football team called the BEARS?

There are QUITE literally ZERO bears in Chicago.

Thought that was Sumlin at first, but I don't see a drink in his hand.

They don't do themselves any favors by having games on a random Thursday night or at 11:00am on a Sunday. I don't see a lot of people rushing out to watch a bad football team in a spring league nobody cares about at oddball times like those.

Quote:

Chicago (October 27, 2025) There are two new bears in Chicago, but they're making themselves at home a few miles north of Soldier Field. Female brown bears Ash and Lexi made their debut today at Lincoln Park Zoo's Walter Family Arctic Tundra.

They kept the Gamblers name but ruined the amazing legacy uniforms.

They're not called the Houston Sports Betters. And there is most definitely gambling in Texas.

With multiple wives in Utah lots of jazz happening.

Have you watched them play? Even if he's physically healthy (which I hope he is) there is no way he can be ok watching the bleep-show that is on the field. They might be the worst team in a league of bad football teams.

Not sure your pic supports your claim. Looks good for a guy who's what, early 60s?

IMO, the Sumlin hate is overblown.

Sumdog looks better than when he lived and coached in The Station.

C-Stat and the pressure of the meddling fat cats really took a toll on him.

I'm surprised people even get asshurt about Sumlin or any other former coach.

Maybe Elko has A&M on the cusp of something, but I've seen enough Aggie football to know the coaching has made very, very little difference. It has been a mismanaged heap of garbage for a long time. There might be like .05% of posters on this site (probably less) who have a true say in the direction of the program, but no amount of money contributed by the blowhard everyday posters begin to scratch the surface of being able to make a difference in Aggie football.

That ticket scammer chump is/was not nearly as connected to things as he and daddy like to fantasize about for example.

Hope the dude is well in any event. It is nice to just be a casual football observer these days and no longer harbor hate for former coaches. Derail over.

Objectively, it doesn't make sense:

6 seasons. 0.677 win %. 3 bowl wins. 1 conference coach of the year.

7 seasons. 0.648 win %. 2 bowl wins. 0 conference coach of the year.

One of these is Sumlin. The other is TexAg's all time favorite Aggie HC.

Exactly. You can make an argument that his success was all due to Manziel, but Sumlin let him run wild. If Sherman were still the coach, I am not sure if Manziel would have started, but the offense would have been much more conservative.

Sumlin had two future NFL quarterbacks on the roster at the same time and they both ended up transferring. He's got to be part of that equation.

I maintain he was in a no win situation with all the egos involved. He had no choice but to take Kyler (and his dad). Of course, promises about playing time were made to Kyler and dad. It was doomed from the start. Clearly both QBs weren't gonna stay. Still crazy that both portaled out.
