There are about 20 different ways to say both of those words in various places around Latin America, much like there are several ways that people from parts of the US might order a soft drink. My original point stands.

I lived in Spain and learned Spanish there. Lots of people there look down on any version of Spanish that isn't the way they speak it (all of Latin America), as well as the people speaking that way.

Only other word for popcorn I know is Gallitos from Venezuela - what are the other 18?

Just curious because My Family is half from Spain and half from Colombia w Mexican born wife snd we live in Mx and those are the only 2 I've ever heard and she's ever heard. Don't add de maiz at the end and pretend those are different… if so now were at 4 w 16 to go jaja.

Colombian spanish is about as clean and close to Castilian Spanish as exists. Si mis abuelos pensaran que mi mama hablaba mal español no les hubieran permitido a mi pap a casarse. So, lets stop playing the everythings different in Spain because they arent and if they we're I'd know because that's where half My gentics are from and a large portion of My Family still lives (Cdiz) Yeah they look down of mexican/CA Spanish, peruvians, bolivians, etc but my spanish family LOVES colombians, Venezuelans, and Argie Spanish.

In fairness to your server and whoever they asked for the lime, "lime" and "lemon" might be the same word in Spanish depending on the country they are from. You might differentiate by asking for a "green lemon" next time. You might also sound like a crazy person saying it like that, though. Either way, good luck!

This bolded part was my whole point from my first post, but Mr. "I'm from Mexico and speak the one true and only Spanish" came along to correct me. (That's just as stupid as some Spaniards thinking that if you don't speak with some form of a lisp you are wrong.) All of us except him have acknowledged there are different ways to say some things in Spanish. I work around a lot of construction workers and it's fun to hear different accents and words that they call some things. My whole point was meant to be lighthearted and fun but that got sucked away by no-Ag tag keeper of the language dude.

Oh and for giggles I have family from Puerto Rico who call it something very close to "popcorn".

I also have a business associate who said the small town he's from in Venezuela says "popcorn machine" because that's what was on the carts that first introduced it to their area.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. After living in Houston for 40 years and San Antonio for a few, the best bang for your buck is taco cabana and las Palapas. Everything else is overpriced and eh.

Lower your standards.
Remember the good ole days when you could get Fajitas for 2 from Fandango's...I think it was $7.99..ha, a steal.
