We live really close to the Cinco golf course. Didn't flood (not even close).
We really like it here and can still pop into Houston now and then.
Schools are good but it's definitely a blue county so not really sure how long that will be a thing.
Luckily i don't commute far so i don't have to mess with Houston traffic but weekend tie ups around here can suck

Same with this. New windows and new insulation. Electricity bills are less than $250 for a 3500+ square foot houses. Keep it at 76/79 downstairs and upstairs so that gets savings, but still.

76/79? Y'all just sit there and sweat? I don't set it that high when we go out of town.

I realize I'm the crazy one, but you get used to it and it doesn't bother me anymore. I walk into a 72 degree house and freeze now.

Whatever works for you, I guess. My AC wouldn't even run if it was set that high.

The area from Cane Island Katy proper to Sienna Plantation might end up being the largest suburb in the United States when it is all said and done. I wouldn't be surprised if it surpassed the population of the whole Greater OKC metro soon. That whole stretch is growing like crazy. I remember reading that it surpassed the population of many moderate sized cities back in the late 2010s. From what I hear, Katy ISD might be the best school district in the whole Houston area.

I have family that lives in Oaks of Green Trails and a friend at work that's near Taylor. Both like it but the coworker w/ a 2 story house has $500+ light bills in the 90s house.

Yup. Those Green Trails houses are notoriously inefficient on the cooling front.

Congrats.

LaCenterra is legit. Second best outdoor suburban shopping/dining district in the Houston area behind only Market Street in The Woodlands.

We are are a few miles west of LaCenterra and really do enjoy it as some good variety of food, drink, Alamo Draft House and shopping if that is your thing. Before anyone tells you there is no parking just head to the garage, park and get a few steps in versus circling like a buzzard looking for one of the few street or lot spots.

Plenty cool if the humidity is controlled and you don't sleep like Linus in the summer.

**** that. I will work an extra hour or two each week if I need to in order to put the thermostat a lot closer to 70. It's just money.

Is this a political reference? I always thought it was the opposite but maybe that's relative to where I live.

Garages for the win. Only time I have ever bothered with surface parking there is the rare occasion of seeing an early showing at the Drafthouse.

Seems like it. Yes Harris County as a whole is barely blue so the county leadership is Democrat controlled at the moment. However when it comes to Katy ISD (which sits in 3 different counties), the part of Katy ISD that is in Harris County but south of I-10 is very red. The part that is in Harris County that is north of I-10 currently leans blue. It pretty much follows the household income brackets.

The Cinco golf course is in Ft Bend County, not Harris. Ft Bend has also gone politically blue (which is something of a surprise to one who lived and worked in that county for more close to two decades, and currently lives less than a mile from the county line). I am guessing it's the less affluent areas of FBC that have turned that county in the wrong direction.

The Blue areas of Fort Bend county are like 99% located south of the Westpark Toll Rd. Make that of what you will.

I'm so glad that they put an exit from that garage to the new 99 service road. Nice to see some big brain decisions.

I'd rather take a beating then to have to go to La Centerra.
What do y'all like about it (except for Alamo Draft House)???

Honestly, I don't go over there frequently. I'm not a shopper, so none of the shops in there are a draw. We have gone over there for dinner on occasion, but we find it to be a PITA to get in there given the traffic on Cinco Ranch Blvd or Westheimer Parkway at what would generally be considered "dinner time". Our typical destination at LaCenterra is the Alamo Drafthouse.

Damn....I killed an hour or so there last year when my daughter had something going on.

Pour one out....are there any Baker Streets left? Looks like just Sugarland & South Austin. Had good times at the W Grey location.

Yes, should help once people figure it out. I saw yesterday LaCenterra added a sign at that new entrance. They smartly got the curb cut put in when first developed but there was no feeder road there as it was really the entrance ramp to 99 southbound so likely wasn't approved by county or TEXDOT. Now you have a full feeder road from Cinco ranch to Westheimer parkway.

Had to take the kids to warby parker a month or so ago to get new glasses and while walking through Lacantera I noticed a seafood restaurant facing that green astro turf space....curious if anyone knows if that place is any good?

It's called Half Shell - it's the same owners as before they just remodeled and redid their menu some. Fish city grill is what it used to be called. Ambience is better for sure but the food is still okay not great.

I've lived in Houston my whole life, aside from some time in CS and Huntsville. My wife and I have lived in Spring Branch since 2015 and with a new baby have outgrown our house. We're looking at moving to Katy. We like Cinco Ranch and Kelliwood but I know very little about the specific area aside from it being generally nice and parts of it flooded. We're putting an offer on a house today. What do I need to know about the area?

If was moving to further out I'd opt for an MPC that is new and has crazy amenities and brand new top rated schools personally. Some location bias from me prob as I haven't lived outside of Hwy 6 going west before.

But I've had friends move out to Katy and the idea of "well we're close enough to come in and see some friends occasionally" doesn't seem to hold up in the long run. You get plugged into little league, church, school, and life in general etc. and plant your flag ultimately from what I've seen from others in your situation that made the move. Unless grand parents are in spring branch or close then you obviously will.

All that to say I'd do Bridgelands, Sunterra, Cane Island, or look to be first into the new Johnson MPC outside 99 south of 290 which I'm blanking on name.

Don't know you or your wife's commute/work location so that to me is a huge factor as it's everyday and effects quality of life more than most factor in imho due to time with kids after work and accessibility.

Anyways. Sorry for the rant. Just my two cents. Have 2 friends/clients in my industry that went to Houston Christian and grew up near BW8/10ish area and both absolutely love it. We're in CRE and they just knock out a bunch of calls on the way home and if ET call do those on the way in.
