I had no idea this many people listened to that station. I thought it was just my dad and the other old timers going for coffee at 0530.
I've never worked for a company who wouldn't spite itself to save a buck. I'm assuming she was making more than Jimmy, but even then I would have kept her out of the two. I wonder if they're going to bring in some cheap 20-somethings to pick up the slack.tzube114 said:
I find it odd that with as long as she's been with the station and her rapport with the whole team there that she would be subject to a reorg. Gotta be more to it. Especially with the abrupt exit. Definitely will miss hearing her in the mornings!
Looking at the class years posting about this, it seems like it is the old timers listeningMilwaukees Best Light said:

Some of us have to be at work by 6am...
And it's a great resource for news.
I doubt it. Probably made decent $$ for what she did and had a job that was easily seen as dispensable, in an industry that's having to increasingly compete for listening ears with satellite radio, streaming services and podcasts.tzube114 said:

I switch between 740, and 790 every morning. Talk radio IMO is more peaceful for my drive in at 5:30 am. I dont want to hear crappy music and crappy jokes and game shows on FM radio when I'm tired and not wanting to go to work. I have no reason to be excited like FM dj's are pretending to be.Milwaukees Best Light said:dBoy99 said:Milwaukees Best Light said:

I do go in early! Guess what, the other stations don't wait on the sunrise to turn on. It's not 1974 anymore where the national anthem plays at 0700 and then they start playing.
Not knocking 740, just really didn't realize their popularity. Maybe I need to give it a chance. My hair is going gray now, so maybe it is time to accept my fate.
All radio networks are facing new rounds of cuts. The Kraken said:I doubt it. They bookend the syndicated shows with local programing during the rush hours.Jugstore Cowboy said:All radio networks are facing new rounds of cuts. The Kraken said:I doubt it. I honestly didn't realize KTRH still had a local news crew. I've tried checking the station during the day a couple of times after or before storms while driving, and they had nothing but syndicated talk.
740 KTRH in the morning on the way to work.Quote:

you're last sentence is the entire problem with "news" these days. I don't need "help" to "understand why" I "should care".agproducer said:
It's the media way now: Do more with less. Save money by cutting as much as you can. Young and cheap. The product suffers, but as long as money is being made, it doesn't matter.
It's not just radio. It's all local media. The ears and eyeballs aren't there like they used to be due to streaming and all other options. Listeners and viewers don't wait for the news anymore. They want it on demand, on the web or social media.
Overall, it's the listeners and viewers who lose. The depth of reporting, in many cases, is gone. The additional context to help listeners understand why they should care, is gone.

I miss Rush.tzube114 said:
Yeah, I listen to the morning show typically because it's just on when I first get in the truck. It has good news headlines usually. I'm a daily listener of Michael Berry and enjoy his show (minus the "back in my day" segments or when he gets way too into music history). Clay and Buck do a decent job in Rush's spot and Hannity is absolutely a no go for me.
I'm opposite.CDUB98 said:740 KTRH in the morning on the way to work.Quote:

950 KPRC in the evening going back home.
And yet the most popular "news" shows on tv and radio are nothing but opinion shows with an occasional guest that have minimal factual reporting.AustinCountyAg said:you're last sentence is the entire problem with "news" these days. really hard to fill the airwaves with straight news and no opinions. Would also be incredibly boring.AustinCountyAg said:you're last sentence is the entire problem with "news" these days. I don't need "help" to "understand why" I "should care".agproducer said:

I think you are missing the point of my comment. My reference was for local media. Also, you likely are not the standard listener/viewer.AustinCountyAg said:you're last sentence is the entire problem with "news" these days. I don't need "help" to "understand why" I "should care".agproducer said:
