Thanks to a shakedown, Michelin finally came to Texas to rate some restaurants.

Here's who got a star in Houston:

BCN Taste and Tradition
Le Jardinier
March
Musaafer
Tatem
Corkscrew (listed in Spring but imma claim it for Houston)

This should give us a good day or two of discussion with everyone expressing their opinions.

Let's hear them!

Can Houstonians still wear cutoffs, 15 YO curved bill grease-covered caps, and 5 days of shift work welding stink to their favorite establishments?
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough

Corkscrew is fantastic. Hopefully this doesn't make the line to get in even longer.

No El Tiempo!

List is worthless!

Haven't been to any of those places.

I remember when I was well-connected and in the know about things.

I've only ever been to Le Jardinier and Corkscrew and haven't even heard of a couple of the others.

My only complaint is that the recommended restaurants skewed heavily toward Austin. Aga's not getting anything is surprising. Houston has a lot of great Indian food that was mostly overlooked.

Nice to see some stars finally in Houston, however looks like the completely skipped some obvious ones and ignored Chinatown altogether. Surprised that Kata Robata didn't get a look. Glad Ema, Nobie's, and Truth got some bib recognition.

Did I read it correctly that the Pinkerton's in San Antonio got a star but not the original Houston?

FTR, I don't like Pinkerton's so I'm not upset, just odd its not the mothership restaurant.

My backyard isn't listed either. All my neighbors say it's the best caviar they've ever had.

Yup. That list looks about right.

(And if yall haven't been to BCN, yall really should....its my favorite on that list).

Houston also cleaned up on the BiB Gormand (sp).

Also, the Dallas snub (only one michlien star, and less BiB), is hilarious.

Musafer is vastly superior to Aga.

none of those places look good, is that were people go to convince themselves they are rich and cool? Probably go to Whataburger after one of those places.

Dang you must be really fat if you need Whataburger after Corkscrew BBQ.

Never been to a Michelin Star restaurant, and honestly would feel too intimidated to try. Granted, looking at some of those menus, the prices weren't as bad as I was expecting.

BCN is outstanding. I think MAD might be better.

I also wonder how Feast and/or Underbelly would have stacked up back when they were new'ish and ongoing.

As an aside, I'd love to hear the inside story of how/why Chris Shepherd exited the restaurant group he founded and made such a force. I would have put the OG Underbelly up against every high-end restaurant I've been to in NYC or Chicago except Le Bernadin (3 Michelin stars). It was definitely worthy of a star if Blackbird or Atelier in Chicago are.

You shouldn't feel intimidated and, if a particular restaurant looks good to you, you should go for it.

I certainly do not come from an upper crust background, but have been fortunate enough to eat at a number of Michelin starred restaurants. Even the ones that seem the most uppity at a distance (say, The French Laundry) aren't that way in person. The staff at every high end place I've been goes out of their way to make people feel at home. Just be nice and I guarantee you the staff couldn't care less.

I don't think MAD even got a nod. I prefer BCN over MAD, but reasonable minds can differ on that. (The people watching at MAD at the bar is outstanding though).

I thought the same thing while watching last night. I was never a huge Chris Shepherd fan, but the early days of Underbelly was indeed excellent.

Give BCN a shot. Not crazy experience, best Gin and Tonics (Spanish style) in the city. Expense, but not oppressively so for Houston (as opposed to March, very expensive).

It's been a minute since being to either MAD or BCN and I might be skewed because of one dish but MAD had an appetizer of mini-tacos made from confit duck tongues that was absolutely amazing and it's what stands out to me the most from those two places.

That's fair. At MAD they did a full suckling pig, and that was the only thing on the menu that I thought was worth going back for (they didn't have the duck tounge).

BCN, I've been multiple times, had something different, and it always knocked my socks off. Even down to the olive oil, salt, and bread.

Yeah, it's not on the menu now. And the suckling pig is amazing there.

The Iberico ham at both is just stupid good.

Oh come on now. That's not true. You know it.

Kinda dumb to do all the time but going to a legit restaurant occasionally is good for the soul.

That said, if Whataburger is truly a place you consider good enough for the price, then you will likely just be unhappy no matter what and should just stick to TV Dinners and Overpriced fast food.

First it's Pappas.

Second, are you referring to Pappas BBQ or Pappas Steakhouse? Because the former is pretty far down on the totem pole of decent BBQ joints while the latter is an excellent steakhouse. Goode Co. BBQ is decent but way, way below the good BBQ places around.

MAD used to have a duck paella that was great. I also miss their foie gras "ice cream" cones. That said, I think BCN is still better. The only place I've had better suckling pig was at a restaurant in Ibiza that also had a star. The fideo at BCN is up there on the list of best things I've ever eaten as well.
