Back then grocery stores were great jobs for high schoolers and except for day shift when we were all at school, most of the front of the house employees were high school kids. Today it's so different. My teens have applied to so many places that used to be teen havens for jobs and they don't even get an interview or chance to meet ... They all seem to be staffed by adults these days.
Yep ... my Rice Food Market was the same. Almost all high school/college kids except for a couple of managers and the specialty folks, like produce and meat.
We even had a third manager who was a senior in high school -- making big bucks for his age.
Great real-life experience and a huge source of employable workers for businesses.
Today, mass immigration and the lack of quality education have swelled the ranks of adults with no marketable skills who take those jobs because the managers don't have to work around school and activity schedules.
