Have family planning to do a home remodel - they're looking for a GC they can trust to do it well, on time, and at a fair price. Any leads and / or input appreciated. Thanks

Cross posted on Outdoor board.

Houston Custom Remodeling did our living room/kitchen remodel a few years ago and knocked it out of the park. I think he's done remodels for a few other posters as well.

Hubley Homes did our second story - awesome to work with and lives in the area. I had 3 others quote the work and they were the best priced and had excellent quality.

I've used Drew Yoder at Yoder Construction LLC. He has been great.

We met with them for ours a few years ago for our remodel (it was pretty substantial - moved out for 6/7 months) - very strange process. They don't bid work - if you want them to bid, you've got to pay them a few thousand dollars to submit a budget - that's weird. We were able to talk through it and get it waived - but it was a struggle. Ultimately they ended up close to 2x the rest of the bidders. They bragged about their itemization, but it started revealing stuff like $90/gallon of paint material. As I asked more questions, they made even less sense. When we turned them down, they told me I was wrong. I think they're great for people with a whole bunch of money who dont know anything about the design/construction process and are happy to money whip a project. Nothing wrong with that - my neighbor loves them, my in laws have used them several times; they do good work - just didnt jive with the Rononeills.

Went with Southern Green Builders. https://www.southerngreenbuilders.com/
They were very good to deal with on the front end, pretty transparent with the pricing, let me manage allowances/big purchases (appliances, fixtures, etc.), coordinated well with the design team. It was a complicated project, so we ran into a few bumps, but they were fantastic in finishing it out - the quality, attention to detail, customer service, fantastic. I think they were growing pretty rapidly at the time, so I've written off the challenges to growing pains. This was 7 or 8 years ago - and they're still going strong, so I'd imagine they're even better now. And they're Aggies. I'd highly recommend them.

I agree on Morgan Moore. Referred to us by friends. We used him for two remodels, one in Bunker Hill and one in Briargrove Park. The first remodel was updating two bathrooms, adding a full bathroom , complete rebuild of the kitchen and new flooring downstairs. The second remodel was taking the whole in house down to the studs, except for two secondary bedrooms.

Morgan does remodeling and also builds new homes in the Wilchester area. He worked on a cost plus basis and gave a detailed bid supported by subcontractor estimates. He provided actual invoices at the time of payment. I still call in him for referrals to subs for roofing, a/c, etc and he always has good referrals.

That was the general opinion I got from my neighbors.

Yeah, I've known Neil and Ryan since A&M. Good dudes. I haven't worked with them but I've been in some of the houses they've specd or remodeled.
