Daddy's Chicken Shack has been closed up the last couple of days. I suppose it's possible they somehow lost power with all the work Centerpoint has been doing, but if not, they may finally have gone teats up. I'm surprised they've made it this long.

Gus Fring has to be running the joint.

It's the only explanation as to why it's not shuttered.

It's in better shape than a beat up Altima with paper plates but like those cars it should be dead. However, it's somehow still running/open.

Don't know how it's made it this long unless they do a lot of takeout. There is never anyone there when I drive by.

Is this the chicken shack at 11/Durham? Nothing like eating in a future Superfund site

Not sure I have seen a dozen cars there total since it opened. Can't believe they have made it this long.

Tough going selling $10 chicken sandwiches when there's a Popeyes across the street that has them for half the price (and just as good or better).

This is why I never went until seeing a $5 lunch bag special on Facebook for the sandwich, chips and a cookie. The Sandwich was very good, but not $15 that they normally charge for the bagged lunch.

The code ($5Lunch) worked for a couple weeks but looks like online ordering for that location is disabled now.

I'll never understand how anyone thinks this and all the other 10+ new fried chicken and pizza places that have gone in (or are going in) in a 2 mile radius will sruvive. Or if they do, that there are that many people eating fried chicken and pizza that frequently to support them all.

Excuse my ignorance, but what makes that area any "dirtier" than eating at Snooze or The Burger Joint, or any other place located along the Shepherd/Durham corridor?

This was a former dry cleaner location. Dry cleaners are notoriously environmentally hazardous, and take forever to remediate and the process is expensive. I did a lot of chemical related real estate valuation and consulting work when I was at Deloitte, and based on what I saw then, I would personally never buy anything that had been a dry cleaners, or even want to spend much time on site working as a cashier. It's really bad stuff.

So I was eating potentially toxic donuts and authentic sausage, cheese and jalapeño kolaches right next door for years and didn't even know it?

In all seriousness, I agree...couldn't pay me enough to work at one without proper gear.

If the chicken was good they wouldn't be on the official RTT death watch....

This exactly, on the site of a very ****ty dry cleaners that I have no faith in their ability to safely handle chemicals.
For instance here is a Superfund in Cypress that was a dry cleaner over a decade ago and still toxic

It was good, but overpriced and across the street from a Popeye's where you can get twice the chicken at half the price.

Its even worse than that, the main chemical is a forever chemical and very easily spreads through the groundwater to neighboring properties.

Saw a public level 2 report one time that had traced the chemical from its source across the street into the ground underneath neighboring homes.

Theres some twitter buzz about never getting more than level 1 report because the level 2 reveals what you don't know and that is now remediation work.

(I think they are called levels, they might be called tiers)

If there was remediation required for the property when it was converted, COH would have required it to be done, so I don't think that's an issue at this particular property.

3pm on a Friday and the security doors are down with printed notes on them. They gone…

I never ate there after I saw their menu prices online.

I wouldn't have eaten there if not seeing the discount on FB recently. If their prices were little lower and/or they did more promotions/marketing they might have made it.

A lot of dry cleaning stores send the clothes off to a central plant for treatment, so it's not a given that every dry cleaners storefront is going to have issues.

Maybe. A lot of people lie, too, so there's that. Like I said, the risk isn't worth the reward for me. I'm not that in need of a chicken sandwich, but you do you.

It made it a lot longer than I thought it would. Wonder what goes in there next? CBD store? Boba Tea? Or maybe a Mexican restaurant, we seem to have a shortage of those.

Did you just call me a liar?

What I said is a simple, observable, commonplace fact. Not that I particularly care where you get your chicken sandwich.

There's already two THC shops within two blocks - American Shaman is across the street and THC Club is like 12th and Shepherd.

The last dry cleaner to be in that space sent their clothes off. The first guy in that space was hand dipping clothes like it was ice cream and dumping this stuff down the drain to save on hazard disposal fees 40 years ago.
