Water fountain at Kingwood Town Center. Kingwood drive and West Lake Houston. Someone had extra soap suds and decided to tag the fountain. Not all hero's wear capes. According to my wife who was driving by, after sending me this message. Soap suds were flowing down West Lake Houston towards the river.

When I first moved there in 93 this was a common thing.

Not saying it is news, I've lived in the humble/kingwood area all my life.

I figure post something funny with all the stupid news that's out there.

If the kids ever got a jug of agriculture marker foam they would shut down that intersection.

We used to do this in my hometown with a drilling fluid foam that was super concentrated. Had clouds of bubbles the size of VW bugs floating down Main Street.

Boy the Karen's on Nextdoor and the Facebook groups get BENT every time it happens too.

A buddy of mine growing up had a fountain in his front drive (they weren't hurtng for cash). A mutual friend of ours decided to put 5 gallons of bubble bath into it one night. The entire cul-de-sac he lived on was covered in bubbles. Hilarity ensued.

Somehow, Conroe had something to do with this.

It's always claimed that the soap/bubbles do something that harms the pumping equipment in the fountains which costs a lot to repair/replace/maintain.

I have no idea if it's true or not but count me in the camp of thinking it's harmless fun.

Just guessing:

1. It could cause cavitation which would damage pump seals.

2. I assume the water is treated somehow. It probably screws with that.

2) I'd imagine the water is just supplied like any other water that comes out of the tap in a residence or business

Water is closed loop (like a pool), but shouldn't be too treated. They might throw some chemicals in it, but mostly wont.

The only way to create caviation is to either heat up the water, reduce the level or run it dry. I cannot see the soap doing that. You might change the pH to cause some damage, but in my limited dealings with pool pumps and seals, they should be able to handle that pH change. The only other item is heat, but that's more of running dry.

I would think it is more of a pain to do repairs later if everythings covered in soap vs. just having it in the water.

I could see it being a closed loop but then wouldn't they have to have some way to account for evaporation and overflow drains for when it rains too much?

RIP to the apartment fountain where the heb is now at Lake Houston and KW drive. It stayed fluffy on weekends when I was in high school

Don't forget Mallard Creek apartments on 59 south just before Kingwood drive. Every Sunday while driving to church, the water fountain would be tagged with soap bubbles. I remember one Sunday in particular, the soap bubbles where going across the feeder street, while soap suds were flying onto the freeway. Almost wreaked my car from laughing so hard.

That ain't Kingwood.

Use to be bums in the forest behind Elm Grove and Ford rd. Perry Homes took care of that problem.

Now its one giant open field.

I mean yeah. They could have a float filler. But that's just putting in city water.

Overflow would go to the storm drain.

Not to mention if comes In contact with grass or plants/ shrubs it could kill them also

So put me in the camp of no it's not " harmless fun"

It causes more work $ for someone and when that happens it's not a prank, it's destruction of property.

It is also a criminal mischief charge and depending on amount of damage caused could result in anything from a class C misdemeanor and a $500 fine to felony with jail time and up to a $10,000 fine.
The cost of pumps and these fountains are not cheap so if damaged and you're charged you could be looking at a hefty penalty .

Found the Kingwood HOA board member...

HPD could careless about some fountain in Kingwood. They barely wake up from their naps, for a burg in progress.

Explain to me how soap, a water soluble compound, clogs a pump.

A pump is used to create soap.

A pump is used to bottle said soap.

You pump soap onto your hands when you wash them.

Please enlighten me on how soap breaks a pump.

As a chemist, I don't know. I try to avoid learning about pumps. That's an engineering thing and I find it boring.
