Power outage frustration has Houston homeowners considering new battery backup options
I got one of the bad units last year. Got a replacement in pretty quickly at no charge and haven't had any issues since.AgLiving06 said:
Micro-Air took a big hit last year when their new "Flex" failed miserably.
I haven't kept up to see if they finally fixed whatever problem is they had, but the thing was failing miserably when it got hot in Texas.

I watched that. Looks interesting. Not sure I like them using the battery assigned to me to supplement the grid. What happens if they run it down and then the grid dumps? Not I only have a couple hours of juice? I do like $500 and the surge protection. Interesting option that has me curious. Would like to hear what others think. If this gets any traction; I might make a separate thread on it.
So that would have gotten me about a fourth of the way through Beryl. Glad I had my generator!Quote:
Depending on usage and the number of appliances, the battery can run an average household for about 30 hours.

I'd move that generator away from the eave to CO doesn't leak into the house.Dill-Ag13 said:

I got this one and it seems fine. You can spend more and probably a little less. There are plenty out there.
I got mine based on a generator facebook page rec
CO isn't like other gasses. It disperses evenly through the air. It doesn't rise or fall in mass.drumboy said:I'd move that generator away from the eave to CO doesn't leak into the house.Dill-Ag13 said:

Doesn't mean I don't have 4-5 alarms throughout my house, but it isn't like the movies.

Bump for the upcoming freeze. Busting out the genny this afternoon after the rain clears to make sure we're all prepped for the possible outages this weekend. Stocked up on oil. Battery booster charged up. Spare capacitors on hand. What am I forgetting?

When was the last time you actually changed the oil?

Right after I finished the break-in period before I stored it, about a month ago.

What generator? On many on them, there's a recommendation to change the spark plugs out because the factory ones suck.

Does anyone know if COH is actually enforcing their 2024 revision requiring standby generators to be installed at least 5 feet off any combustible exterior building walls (including wood framed - brick veneer)?
