When it rains it pours. Outlook looks like a bad season. I know they always say that, but this time I think they mean it. This storm is a somewhat of a blessing because the trees that have fallen and transformers that have blown up are being taken care of. Also wakens people to stock up on water, generators, gas, and of course bleach. Hang onto your butts gif and I hope I'm wrong.

In all my years, they have always said this year is projecting to be a bad year for hurricanes. Seems the more hyped they go at it, the less activity there is. Not saying it won't happen, but trying to project Hurricane activity in the first half of the year leading up to hurricane season is futile.

I agree they seem to say the same thing every year....this will be a record year! Be Prepared! Takes it hard to take the warning seriously for sure.

But....don't necessarily agree that there has been less activity. I just think we've been lucky in where the storms hit/don't hit. I mean how recently was it when we were running through the Greek alphabet?

They say that every year....

But...as many have observed...without a lick of metrology...just seems like we are due.

It's a lot easier to bump this thread as an I told you so than a post on the hurricane thread.

Historically we are hit every 20-25 years. Ike wasn't that long ago, so we are not 'due', but that doesn't mean anything.

Ike was 16 years ago, I'd say that's a little more distant that not that long ago. The forecasts are always doom and gloom this time of year and usually the outcome is below expectation, but you never know.

Rain event vs. wind event.

And bring it on. After the past couple of weeks of rain, my lawn looks like Augusta National.

yea, i'm talking significant weather events, not necessarily getting slammed by a major hurricane.

So we should be hoping that the Saharan dust storm/travel is significant?

This is above average for a NOAA prediction as seen below. And despite what many believe, they typically underestimate the number of hurricanes. Particularly 2020 and 2017.

NOAA Prediction 2024
Named Storms 17-25
Hurricanes 8-13
Major hurricanes 4-7

NOAA Prediction 2023
Named Storms 12-17, actual 20
Hurricanes 5-9, actual 7
Major hurricanes 1-4, actual 3
Total damage $4.19 billion, 18 total fatalities

NOAA Prediction 2022
Named Storms 14-21, actual 14
Hurricanes 6-10, actual 8
Major hurricanes 3-6, actual 2
Total damage $118.286 billion, 304 total fatalities

NOAA Prediction 2021
Named Storms 13-20, actual 21
Hurricanes 6-10, actual 7
Major hurricanes 3-5, actual 4
Total damage $80.727 billion, 194 total fatalities

NOAA Prediction 2020
Named Storms 13-19, actual 30
Hurricanes 6-10, actual 14
Major hurricanes 3-6, actual 7
Total damage $55.394 billion, 417 total fatalities

NOAA Prediction 2019
Named Storms 9-15, actual 18
Hurricanes 4-8, actual 6
Major hurricanes 2-4, actual 3
Total damage $11.6 billion, 121 total fatalities

NOAA Prediction 2018
Named Storms 10-16, actual 15
Hurricanes 5-9, actual 8
Major hurricanes 1-4, actual 2
Total damage $50.526 billion, 172 total fatalities

NOAA Prediction 2017
Named Storms 11-17, actual 17
Hurricanes 5-9, actual 10
Major hurricanes 2-4, actual 6
Total damage $294.803 billion, 3369 total fatalities

NOAA Prediction 2016
Named Storms 10-16, actual 15
Hurricanes 4-8, actual 7
Major hurricanes 1-4, actual 4
Total damage $17.485 billion, 736 total fatalities

Whoa, it's getting dark out. Can someone remind me how much bleach we're supposed to drink in the event of a storm?
