Long story short. I have shared custody of my daughter AND paid child support since 2015. No issues and we seemed to do well co-parenting. Daughter is now a finishing Junior year of HS and mom has a new boyfriend. She is now asking for more child support all of a sudden even though we share custody. Oh yeah, I also pay and have paid for her health, eye and dental insurance.
If anyone knows a good Ag lawyer I can talk to about this please let me know. I was served some paperwork and have 20 days to respond. TIA!!

This is Harris County btw.

He was a mediator for my case, and he's from Rice and not an Aggie, but I was very impressed with Phillip Guhtzman when I worked with him a few years ago. He was a great mediator and was able to communicate with some parties who couldn't be communicated with by others, and I got the impression his approach as a lawyer was as good as his work as a mediator.

He does great work. I just helped him prepare for oral argument before the court of appeals. He knows his stuff!! You can schedule a consultation on his website.

Wouldn't that make your daughter around 17? So your ex is asking for more child support for just one more year until she is 18? Seems odd and selfish of her. But depending on how much more she is asking for and how much you want to fight it, may not be worth all the legal fees for one year.

Same thoughts

Spend 10k fighting or just give it to her and be done with it forever

FWIW I used https://www.thelarsonlawoffice.com/ and they were fine. But we had mutually agreed on everything so I didn't need them to fight for me - no input on that end

You are correct. She is being extremely selfish. We have co parented well over the years (at least I thought)and I get blind sided by this when all she had to do is come talk to me.

Anyway, yeah I just want some advice from a lawyer who deals with this. I have cut off all communication and informed my daughter what is going on as well. All those times my daughter asked to leave her mom and come stay with me permanently and I did the right thing. Boy was I a fool.

Not a lawyer.

Has your income increased since 2015? Sounds like she's trying to get what she can, while she can and, if your income is significantly different, don't be shocked if the monthly payment is adjusted accordingly. "This is how we've always done it" won't be a sufficient defense.

Have you maintained >50% custody over the last 6 months and can you prove it? If so, you could be designated as the custodial parent and request support from her.

When does the support terminate and is she asking for an extension? If she isn't attempting to modify the term, this may not be worth fighting.

Sorry you're going through it, good luck, sounds like the pain will be short lived regardless.

My income has increased. I have also maintained 50% custody as it is also in the divorce decree. My daughter can even testify to that. I have also paid my daughters insurance (health, eye, dental) since the divorce.

Been there and done that. My ex hammered me in Harris County. As the male expect them to bend you over and use no lube. As my previous lawyer told me in these type of cases prepare for BOHICA. I wish you well hopefully she will respect you afterwards with that new boyfriend leading her.

Counter with a full custody suit? Sounds like your daughter would choose that path.

It's also game theory. Your ex has defected so you respond with further defection. If she respond with cooperation you reconcile. She has defected, if you cooperate she will defect again.

I don't think it matters* edit: that you've had 50% custody. The process isn't set up to accommodate non standard custody arrangements.

Hell, if your daughter thinks it's BS and selfish, put in for revised custody with you as primary and have her testify. At 17, the court is likely to rule to her decision. Turnabout is fair play. The ex went low, you can go lower.

I imagine yall have a no cohabitation clause in the divorce too. See if the new boyfriend has ever spent the night.

Note to self, clean up around the house more often so my wife doesn't divorce and hope she never goes crazy and I have to divorce her.

BOHICA! That takes me back to 4.0&Go sessions for Ruvane Marvit's freshman math class.

Are these standard? My Xs lawyer had it in the first version of mine but removed it when I pushed back on it.

Standard; not necessarily. But very common when young children are in the house(s).
