My brother goes quite a bit to that hotel one and has made quite a bit of $ doing it. It's not really much different than playing at casinos in LV or Louisiana. There are many shady ones, but there are some pretty big classy ones as well.

Never been, but I'm told a good rule of thumb when going to one of these poker rooms is if you get there and can't immediately see who the sucker is, then you're the sucker.

I just see a whole bunch of 30 year old dudes that think they are Johnny Chan or Matt Damon from Rounders sitting around trying to hustle each other, not talking and smoking a bunch, but probably vaping, in a room with odd lighting. It sounds incredibly boring.

Have a very vivid memory of Magic Island. I'm 38 and have lived on the SW side of Houston (Past Rosenberg) nearly my whole life. My parents celebrated an anniversary there back circa 1998 or 1999 - so I was 12 or 13 and we rarely got a chance to go "into the city" so I tagged along because, well, it was Egyptian themed! I recall a magic show, and possibly some fire. My father had the raw oysters and ended up being sicker than a dog. I'm trying to find some pictures. I remember the music and the decorated rooms - probably why I have such a fondness for Treasures off of Westheimer.

The diversity is pretty incredible. Old/young/rich/poor/men/women

It's a fun game you can make $ at playing. What is so boring? Though, to really be able to make $ you do have to commit to the grind.

This is the best case scenario.

39 here and also have a memory of going to this place when I was probably around 11 or 12. I remember they gave me a key card to put into a metal snake's mouth to open the door to get into the main area. Pretty sure the snake's eyes lit up red when you put the card in and I think it was a big stone door that slid open. I remember one of the magic tricks was putting a penny (I think it was cut) in my hand and the "magician" held a lighter under my hand and the penny changed shape from the heat. Last memory I have is the chocolate mousse was legit.

This could all just be a very memorable fever dream though. Great trip down memory lane.
