Mirror knocked off of car question

Daughter was driving on a road under construction, 2 lane road both sides have concrete barriers to protect construction crew. There are a few houses on the road and somehow a garbage can was jutting out and she tried to miss it but didn't want to swerve into on coming traffic, the can knocked the side mirror off.

Do I have any chance in getting the garbage company or homeowner to pay for this?

This is not a standard residential street, it's FM 1463 and the speed limit is 40 mph and the lanes are super narrow due to the construction

Your daughter pays for it.

Hope this helps.

Ordering a mirror off rock auto might be the best option here.

Worth a shot asking, I'll let her know to slam her brakes on next time so at least the person that hits her will have to pay.

A few more driving lessons would be cheaper than that.

LOL so you thought turning to the internet for help was an answer let alone the Houston board on Texags prayers for your family

Life lesson. Sometimes **** happens.
Deal with it and move on.

I was driving to work one morning and I hit something while it was pouring rain. Suddenly my car was out of alignment. Swung back around because WTF. Turns out it was a manhole cover "City of Houston" that had a point on it so it wouldn't lay flat...completely busted my shock tower and had to have the entire assembly replaced.

Right out of my pocket.

Deal with it and move on.

Maybe try the company that made the trash can.

I hit a hawk in my old F250 on the side mirror one time. Scared the bejeezus out of me when it slammed back against the truck at highway speeds. Knocked the glass out and cracked the mirror housing. Ordered a replacement online for a few hundred bucks and replaced it myself. That's going to be your best OP. Mother Nature didn't return my calls to get her insurance info, and if she won't fess up, you damn sure aren't going to get the garbage company to accept responsibility. If I was the homeowner and you knocked on my door about this I'd probably laugh in your face.

Your daughter did the right thing by hitting the trash can and not swerving into on-comming traffic.

However, i doubt your daughter was the first one to drive past that trashcan. Either she was following too close behind a vehicle in front of her which caused her to not see the trash can in time, or she just wasnt paying enough attention to her surroundings. Sucks, but this is ultimately on her to pay for it.

I'd go after the car manufacturer for making such a cheap POS that a bump into a trash can rips the mirror off.

I'm trying to imagine where on 1463 there would be houses with trash cans in the road. About where was this?

None of the plastic trash cans I've seen in the COH have the ability to knock a mirror off.

I don't believe you are getting the real story and are too naive here.

That was my thought. There is only 1 or 2 properties left that even are residentials that have a driveway that faces 1463. They're just south of Kingsland. The rest of it is all strip centers, grocery stores, and neighborhood entrances.

Maybe she hit an orange traffic barrel since they are all up and down 1463 and thought it was a trash can.

Sheesh… this is even written like a 16 year old girl who wasn't paying attention would explain her mistake to her Mom and Dad.

Could be south of 1093 (I know that's 359, but OP might be confused). Although I don't know how much construction is going on down there.

They replaced the two 90 degree turns just south of 1093 with long S-bend. Its nowhere near as fun to drive as it used to be. But i GUESS its safer.

Was coming south on 99 when a big ass bird got airborne right in front of me, slick roads from rain, could not avoid that thing. Slammed into my windshield while I was going north of 70mph. Splintered the windshield but thankfully it didn't shatter. And thankfully I was able to maintain control as all of this happened in the blink of an eye. That bird's wingspan was just about as wide as my Sequoia's windshield.

I looked in the rear view mirror, but never saw the bird fall to the ground. Probably just missed seeing that, as there is no way that thing survived that collision.

Years back, headed west on I-10 and the beltway, a truck in the next lane kicked up a blown out truck tire and it landed in my lane just in front of me. Cracked the bumper cover. Called the insurance company and because it landed, it was a road hazard and my fault.
