People have been camped out since Christmas day for a bourbon release happening today. Tent line goes for blocks.

I don't know that I've seen a more neck-beardian thing in my life. Camping out on a street for four days with nothing better to do (and no job that requires you have something better to do), so that you can get some rare booze that you can compare tasting notes with other neckbeards while sniffing each others farts. What a life.

The only thing that could top it is doing the same for beer, which I understand also happens.

But I do stand corrected on one point -- I wasn't aware that some would stand to gain a couple hundred bucks on the secondary market for reselling the booze they spent four days getting. I don't know much else you can do to get a rate of return like that.

Maybe my bourbon palate isn't very good. But I've had all these "rare" bourbons that the nerds are hunting. They're good. Don't get me wrong here. But they're not "camping out in a liquor store parking lot for 4 days" or "paying 5x retail on the aftermarket" good. So for my time and money, I'll just go with something readily available on the shelf.

None of those people in that line will actually taste it. They will all flip it on the secondary market for a profit. It's still reetarded.

I don't understand that either. They must not be in sales. If I'm going to burn DAYS so I can resell something, it better yield a profit of at least 2,000 bucks. The idea someone would do it for a few hundred is nuts to me. But, I do appreciate the entrepreneurial spirit of it all even if the people they are selling it to wouldn't know a 400 dollar of bourbon from Bulleit. I think a lot of folks will themselves into tasting the difference after they see the brand or see the price tag. I sure as hell can't taste a difference.

It is indeed neckbeardian. But this isn't exclusive to bourbon. It happens with tequila, hunting, fishing, cars, etc.

I'm sure some folks are selling for a markup but I bet lots of them are doing it to have nice bottles to show off at home. I know some whiskey snobs and none of them sell for profit; one even will grab bottles from shops he frequents and sell them to me at retail.

This is a good opportunity to get some bottles that you'd never be able to easily get without spending a bunch of money at a small liquor store, getting the know the owner, just hoping they hook you up when they get some allocated bottles. Longhorn Liquor apparently will pair allocated bourbon with expensive wine so you can get it, you just have to pay a lot for the wine too.

Really good marketing by those brands. Guarantee they could mass prices that stuff but choose to make it seem scarce to people will line up and over pay.

I'll just stir some everclear over oak sawdust, then filter over activated charcoal. 190 proof $50 whiskey. Done.
