I have now eaten here 3 times and I'm not sure if I'm just getting really lucky on these visits or if this place is just consistently really good but man do they knock it out of the park with their brisket and bbq experience! I absolutely love it! I wont pretend to have visited every bbq joint around but I have visited a lot and this is one of the few that really makes me want to come back over and over.

Side note: It's run by the former Toms lead cook and he's an Ag.

Side note 2: No, I'm not the owner or in no way affiliated!

We have our 2nd location coming up in Houston next year and I'm thrilled to be able to work this place into my restaurant rotation and also kinda getting to the point where I don't need to go looking for bbq anywhere else.

Been to the one up on 1960 several times. It's about the best you will find in the area outside of the types of joints that sell out of meat daily.

Roegel's is not too far away and we used to alternate between the two- both solid choices for consistency

It's actually pretty affordable compared to some other more inferior spots too imo. I got out of there at $19 including a drink the last time I was in there and was stuffed.

The brisket, block of cheese, and pickle meal was a favorite when we low carb dieted.

I still smell like smoke from the last time I went there a few years ago.

Was wondering when this would come up. It's not perfect but seems to be better than it was years ago as far venting the smoke out is the place. But anyone in our office that used to go there was identified immediately that afternoon as it was heavy smoke inside.

And yes the aforementioned Brisket House Special is the former Aggie Special from Tom's served on the butcher paper.

Their bbq salad was good. I used to go to the one in Deer Park. Very consistent and waaaaaaaaayy better than anything in Baytown.

I definitely agree that is a very underrated spot for quality and price. It is consistent every time for brisket and ribs.

They also have some good ole SWC football memorabilia on the wall.

Not a bad spot, haven't been back in a few years. Roegels, feges or blood brothers usually get the nod before brisket house when I'm in that area. If the smokey smell is better now I'll take a trip over to check it out.

This. If you go for lunch on a work day you reak of the smoke the rest of the afternoon. I don't really mind it but it's certainly real and unlike most BBq places.

I go there every other week or so. Never once experienced this too much smoke phenomenon.

Idk on most but Pinkerton is really bad. So bad it gets into their desserts.

Had some catered yesterday. Thought it was pretty mediocre. I've had it years ago when they first opened and thought it was solid.

Aren't these guys from the original Tom's in CS?

I've never known catered bbq to live up to in restaurant. Quality def plunges in transport, over mins/hrs, and over chafing dishes. That goes for any bbq joint.

Can anyone ever say they've had bad BBQ?

I can, attempted to be cooked by as manufacturer's rep at his house.

But in a restaurant type setting, anyone? I think it's the side choices that make it worthwhile.

Is that a serious question? Yes, I've been disappointed a number of times by fatty, rubbery brisket, and/or store bought discount sausage. Birds are pretty hit or miss. I do agree that some of the places that get hot for a while do so on the creativity of their sides more so than anything special they do with the meat.

Come to Baytown. Mediocre is the gold standard.

Speaking of, I hear that Hungry Farmer has taken over the old Thomas BBQ spot on 610 & Ella. Never had Hungry Farmer, but I imagine it has to be an improvement.

Pinkertons glazed pork ribs are my fav bbq order in the entire world. God bless. I love that place. Duck jumbalaya is a fun twist too. It's like BBQ version of chicken fried rice.

Might have to get bbq tomorrow. Dang.

Interesting. It's definitely a known thing. I have to think it's because they are in a strip center and don't have a smoker sitting outback outside like most places.

I like the place. PBJ is great. Just my work clothes have that BBQ smell the rest of the day.

Is that by the Lowe's in a red building that sort of looks like a barn? Always wondered how that place stayed in business.

They always made me remember the "location, location, location" adage. I probably only tried it once, though, so it's possible I didn't give them a fair shot.

Never been to any of the Hungry Farmer places, so I'll try to work this one in so I have something new to ***** about.

IMO it is definitely the loser of that restaurant group. If you are ever stuck there for some work or other required get together, order the burger which is really good or if you insist on getting BBQ get it on the baked potato so you can bury it in the rest of those toppings
