I inherited some Wedgewood china from on old Ag in my way-extended family .

The collection is 10-12 plates with buildings from A&M's campus painted on each plate in maroon. There is even a Sbisa plate. Oh the irony!

I have no idea what to do with such items.

These are pretty sought after. I think sets have been going for $6-9k (for all 12). My knowledge is very dated but if you are in Houston you might want to contact Simpson Galleries. They have (had) an appetite for Texas history related stuff.

The entire 12 plate collection pops up on the Classifieds board occasionally. I think the two previous sales were about three grand.

Post pics.

This sounds intriguing.

That stuff is a dying trend, there's going to be a lot of young folks lefty with very expensive, worthless, China on their hands. Eventually resell shops will stop buying it for lack of people to sell it to.
I don't get why people don't use it. We use ours

Both my aunt and my grandmother had china that had a little silver/gold rim around all of it. So you couldn't put it in the microwave without it sparking. And of course it HAD to be hand-washed. Not something I want to mess with.

Haha…we have antique set like that. What better way to celebrate a nice meal with all your guests than having to hand wash their filth off your dishes by hand for the rest of the evening.

We don't do China either for this reason.

Hand washing fine china is easy compared to washing the cut crystal stemware and polishing the sterling cutlery.

There he is! It's like having my own groupie!

I can't figure out how you show up on my posts and follow them like I'm some kind of celebrity. Is there something I can help you with? Have you been offended or wronged in some way? I'm flattered but maybe dial it back a wee bit.

I'm not sure I even looked at who posted that. Thanks for clarifying.

I comment on ridiculous posts sometimes. Sorry if you have more of those than most people.

Now that you mention it,
It is kinda funny that you are an expert on literally every subject someone posts about and have seven lifetimes worth of various work and hobby experience, but hand-washing fine China is filthy and time consuming.

If you are a celebrity, it's Mark Barnes.

We didn't have a dishwasher growing up so my mom made me wash EVERYTHING by hand. So now as an adult, I despise anything that requires hand washing.

I have used the Guild Shop in Houston to consign several sets of china from my parents and grandparents. Prices are all over the place with some sets selling for several hundred and others selling for $75. But its better than dumping at the Goodwill.

The problem with places like replacements.com is shipping it to them is expensive due to packing requirements and weight.

There is a website that sells pieces of tons of collections, i will ask mynwife later. My mom used it to get a couple pieces of an heirloom set we were given.

And I'm sure noone cares, but we use this pretty regularly, they are authentic USN ward room dishes. We have the something like 15 place settings and a fair bit of the accessories. Fits pretty well with our lives.

Man, those would look pretty sweet in the beach house..

You can find them online but the real sets aren't cheap iirc.

You can also get branded ones from the nautical antique store in Galveston from different shipping companies. Some are kind of cool.

Will check it out. Want something with character that can fit in the dishwasher and go in the microwave. Melamine sure isn't the answer for that.

The Guild is one of the grandaddies of the Houston resale/consignment shops run by volunteers from the River Oaks Episcopal Church and for decades the volunteers didn't know the value of items they were pricing and one could find steals on valuable items. The steals became less once they brought in folks with some knowledge.

We display our plates. They are highly sought after.

Corelle made in USA is the 'china' I use.
Light weight, dishwasher safe, numerous designs. Can get really cheap at thrift stores.

I thought my dad posted a pic there for a second. My great uncle was the head cook on a navy ship. We still have a bunch of that stuff. Definitely some of the cooler dishes you could find.

But that's actually meaningful and related to your life and livelihood. It's not some random pattern your wife chose when you got married.

I don't think that in 19 years of marriage we've used the china once. But the wife has also spent a pretty good chunk of change on our everyday stuff.

Yea i completely get that. We have an antique set as well that was handed down from my stepfathers mom I believe that we use occasionally, but I never would have bought it on its own. We have the ENTIRE set though but it is honestly annoying having that much China.

My SIL has an estate sale business in San Antonio. She has not been able to sell a set of China in years.

I inherited China from my parents. It is in a box.
Somewhere. And has been for years.
