Just hit a milestone anniversary, so we're looking to sell my wife's wedding ring and upgrade it soon after. She's got no sentimental ties to it and its pretty dated for the times. Any recommendation for places in town to sell it to?
Not looking to get shanked, so Facebook marketplace isn't an option...

doesn't our boy Chuck do some upgrade program? (along with lots of other independent jewelers)

I'm sure he'll melt the gold and use the rock for another ring (or sell/trade it).

Might be win/win as they'll get the margin on the new ring sale

It would be cool to work the main stone into a new ring with a larger center stone.

Not really like the OP's scenario....

But my wife picked two diamond wedding bands (from Chuck) and the engagement ring (not from Chuck) was curved so didn't really fit between them well.

He removed the diamond from the engagement ring and put it in a new one that fit well with her new wedding bands. He then put a cheap CZ in that old engagement band that my wife uses as a "travel ring".

So, moral of the story, I agree and would talk to Chuck before just selling it.

I'm pretty sure Jonathan's Fine Jewelers could buy it and get you a new ring built. They can make just about anything she would want.

I think this is great. Something I've learned in decades of marriage is that people change. Both of us. The people we were when we married are not the same people married today. A new ring could very well symbolize that difference.

I do like the idea of using the old ring to make a new one.

If you can melt down the gold to recast a new ring or reuse the diamond(s) in a new setting, that could be cool. Also like the idea of putting CZ in the original for a travel ring, never thought of that.

Chuck is great. Made the wedding rings for my wife over a decade ago. Can't go wrong.

Just went through this process ourselves and picked up the new ring (with new stone) a couple of days ago.
As a heads up, depending on when you bought your original ring/stone, don't get your hopes up on what you can get for it. We talked to a couple of reliable places, and compared to what I paid for it 28+ years ago, the resale value is beyond disappointing. Apparently, the growth in the lab grown diamond (which I didn't know was a thing) market has really hit the price of the "used" real ones.

Dixon Jewelers in Humble is a very reputable, same location the last 40 or so years.

Talk to Mitch, really cool guy, loves talking about firearms and motorcycles.

I just got a stone from Hoffman Diamond Co in Houston. They were great to work with. You'd have to ask about the trade in though. He will buy back his diamonds at your original purchase price for upgrading.
