Pondicheri made the top 20? I mean the food's decent, but if you aren't ordering wine or cocktails the waitstaff will completely ignore you.

Gatlin's is some of the worst BBQ I've ever had in my life.

Also, the fact that Hugo's didn't make the list at all is f'ing ridiculous.
they put three of Ortega's restaurants on the list, what do you want? I like Hugo's a lot but okay with its exclusion

I'm sure most of her meals are comped by the restaurants...whether she's "working" or not. If they're not, they're off the list.
you'd be wrong here.. unless she's invited to some media event she goes and pays and Chron foots the bill.
Yeah I understand that's the company line... I still say she/they gets lots of stuff comped. It's good business for the restaurants.
okay, believe what you want but I'm telling you that's not how it works

now all those 'influencers'? Yeah, they are getting comped

only people I know that care this much about resturants and where to go etc, etc, are women.

If you were a business, you would be pretty stupid to not at least offer to comp her meal, if not insist. It's just a solid strategic business move that costs you virtually nothing and could only come with upside, or at least zero downside.

Not saying that she takes any of these offers up, just that I would think most of these places are rolling out the red carpet for her or her staff and very likely offering.

Someone that values their public perception as a journalist could definitely be uncomfortable at the idea being prevalent that the restaurants that they were reviewing were paying for the meal being reviewed. So i think there's definitely the possibilty of a downside.

Not if you know how this works. It's more likely to backfire than to help with actual food critics. More likely to leave and not provide a revue at all than to go easy on you.

Influencers and "important people". They expect it.

A few other notable omissions:

Potente
State of Grace
Relish
Tiny Boxwoods / No. 5

is Tiny Boxwoods really a "notable" omission?

I know I missed this conversation....

But Tinys deserves to be on the list for their cookies alone (I know that's Tiny's Milk and Cookies, not Tiny Boxwoods).
