For narcing?
Yep. The last time restrictions were in place, something like 90+% of violations were reported by neighbors.
I mean, this is a wet dream for all of the Karen's out there to narc on their neighbors. Makes sense
Probably almost a 100% correlation with fully vaxxed and boosted mask wearers.

Watering grass is among the dumbest of things to spend money and water on.

Interested in your take. Wouldn't replacing grass and landscaping be much more expensive and a PITA? Also, pretty sure a lot of neighborhoods won't let you just kill all of your grass off. You live out in the country or somethin?

Even my neighbors who water their lawns on a regular schedule are dealing with dying/dormant lawns. Lack of shade and people still cutting their lawns low is a bigger issue than water. If you have no shade your yard is frying in these temperatures even with consistent watering.

Yeah I'd at least like to keep some of my yard green and the dormant spots more yellow than full on brown and have to replace it next year. I'll pay the water bill

This. Just a few overcast days here and there would have provided some relief imo, but almost every day has been a severe scorcher with almost zero clouds in the sky. Yesterday and Tuesday were a nice change of pace, but I still didn't get a drop at my place.

So how does this work since the allowed window actually spans 2 days?

Is your allowed day based on the 7pm start time and you can go until 5am the next morning?

(1) Between 7:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. of the following day on no more than two days per week in conformity with the following schedule:
a.
Sundays and Thursdays for single-family residential customers with even-numbered street addresses; and
b. Saturdays and Wednesdays for single-family residential customers with odd-numbered street addresses; and
c. Tuesdays and Fridays for all other customers;

Is this from the city? What a cluster already.

Yes. It's the link that that emailed out to all water account holders.

https://www.houstonpublicworks.org/sites/g/files/nwywnm456/files/doc/003-coh_drought_contingency_plan.pdf

How's this a cluster? I mean people are ****ing stupid so yeah, there will always be issues, but this is pretty straightforward for anyone with a tiny bit of common sense.

It's a cluster because that important clarification is buried in a 17 page pdf whose link was sent out in an email with similar language in the email itself, BUT, it does not contain the clarification.

I guess I have no common sense because I have an even number house so my watering days are Sunday and Thursday and I took the below (from the email) to mean I can water at 4am Sunday and 4am Thursday.

Quote:

Stage Two drought response imposes the following mandatory water use restrictions:

- Limit outdoor watering to twice a week between the hours of 7PM and 5AM with the following schedule:

Sundays and Thursdays for single-family residential customers with even-numbered street addresses

The clarification posted (which I would have likely never seen other than this thread) indicates I have to instead do 4am Monday and Friday if I want to comply and adjust my sprinkler system accordingly. This is clearly confusing without the clarification and I'm sure I'm not the only one that took it the way I did (even posters on this thread had already acknowledged that the past midnight thing is confusing). The city is supposedly going to mandate and regulate a watering schedule for millions of residents and likely rely on neighbor Karens for enforcement…how is this not going to be a cluster?

I know it's TexAgs and the internet but there really is no need to be so combative.

I haven't received the notice from COH. Time to go check the spam folder I guess.

From the link on the first page, which is to the COH website, the part you added and bolder isn't included. I assumed that's what they meant, but how do they fail to copy and paste correctly from their own document?!

So do I just ignore the passive-aggressive letters the HOA will ultimately send me when my grass starts dying?

Tell the HOA you're watering per the city's schedule. They can pound sand from there.

The amount of time and resources required to keep a lawn pristine is not worth it IMO. I'll water enough to keep things alive but even when parts of my yard die it always comes back in the spring.

Go on....I'm interested in learning more about this holy zoysia grass you speak of.

St Augustine of Houston is a very needy and high maintenance Saint.

I actually surprised houston and other places have mandated a lower water needy grass or some hybrid that can handle a bunch of water and also drought conditions. Maybe just an impossible find

I don't know. I installed after Harvey trashed my yard. Got it from King Ranch Turf Grass. The spring after installation I pulled a bunch of thistles, etc, that Harvey had placed in the topsoil. After that the grass took care of its own weed control. I de-thatched once or twice, but I think my yard guy uses a rear bagger, so I haven't needed to. Not every year, but sometimes in March I'll apply some broadleaf killer. I don't knownif that's necessary, but by the time July rolls around, the yard looks like I'm actually trying. I water a total of about 30 minutes/week. It's been pretty amazing.

I live in the county, and have an HOA.

I don't water grass, never have an never will. Amazingly every time it gets dry and everybody is out with sprinklers and crap....my grass comes back as soon as it starts raining again. Not once have I replaced grass, nor landscaping for that matter.

Admittedly, my landscaping is minimal and I don't put in plants that require a lot of attention, whether it be water or needing covers and heat when it gets cold on occasion.

My experience is people who say their grass comes back just fine after letting it die back, have as many weeds as grass. Which is fine if all you want is green in the yard. There's nothing wrong with that. That's most of my neighbors.

I spend a lot of time and sweat to make sure my entire yard is St. Augustine. Stressing it to the point of dying back doesn't allow that to be the case. I cut it higher than most, water less frequently, but longer, and stay on the fertilizer and pre-emergent schedule. None of those things make sense if I'm going to let it go to crap.

I'm all for conserving water but how about the COH show some urgency in repairing all the water main breaks in the system that are wasting tens of millions of gallons. Maybe more.
