My Mom has been fast tracked for treatment at MD Anderson. She lives in Temple and has to be withing 15 miles of the hospital during treatment and stem cell transplant. Looking for any help on finding affordable lodging. We have the info of Joeshouse.org and I have been calling places on the list. Most have waiting lists. If anyone has a lead I would appreciate it.

My dad is class of 71 and was in Spider D in the corps. Mom has a spouse Aggie ring and bleed maroon as much or more than Dad and her 4 kids and 2 daughter in laws that went to A&M.

Each patient has an advocate that may be able to assist.

Starting this Tuesday Aug 22nd for at least 6 weeks and more likely 12 weeks.

We have met with the advocate and she gave us a list of places to check with. Many have a wait list or other restrictions. Just wanted to see if anyone here had any info for us. It happened very fast so no time to really prepare.

Sorry to ask but what type of cancer and will she require Chemo?

A friend's mom stayed in the housing by the Mays Clinic at M.D. Anderson. Maybe it's a Ronald McDonald House? Can't remember the name of the apartments there on site.

Lots of people in the area around Rice University have garage apartments. Southampton and West U neighborhoods. With some searching you might be able to find one to rent. You might even check with Rice University student services to see if they have a list or resource for rentals in the area.

Multiple myeloma. She is doing chemo right now while admitted to the hospital.

Thank you, I will ask. Because of the nature and risks of the stem cell transplant, the Dr requires we be really close. Otherwise I wouldn't mind driving from farther away.

West U Baptist, which is very near the med center, provides housing and care for patients and caregivers through their Mercy House ministry. I was a member there when I lived in the area, and they take great care of people in your position.

When my mom was in a similar situation they did an AirBnB at the Latitude. For the need, probably the best location you can have. Small bright spot in the ordeal was the family being able to meet and all be together in her high rise every night after appointments....

Just checked AirBnB and they seem to have a few monthly rental options available in the $3,000-$3,500 range. Reviews are spotty and not many of them, but just not sure if that's because of lack of month long rentals or what.

M.D. Anderson has a facility in Katy, but I'm not sure they would allow that to be the location she needs to be close to. They probably don't do everything at that one like they do at the one on Holcombe.

The Woodlands as well.
