If joists were on 16 " centers , it would be easy. 8 ft hits between two 2x12 joists, so would need to install runners between joists. The place they need to be installed, I can't fit in. Any recs on a carpenter. This is not an easy job

If it's going in a garage, couldn't you just attach 2x4 runners to the joists on the garage side of the drywall and then attach the racks to the 2x4s?

It is in a garage, and if it was easy to get to, yes. It is going on each side of the garage and the pitch of the roof makes it a tight squeeze.

I installed two of these myself on 12ft ceilings. It sucked but was doable. I think professional install is an option on Amazon.

so the ceiling inside the garage is not flat? I'm not sure why you would need to get in the attic. sounds like you do need some help

This post was a waste. I guess y'all need pics . I asked for a carpenter rec, all I get is do it yourself. You have no idea what I am looking at. I asked for carpenter recs in Katy. If you don't have one, please don't comment.
