I'm coming through next weekend for a cruise. Need to get down to Galveston but found something that says I45 is going to be shut down basically all day Saturday.

I'm not from Houston and I don't know the area. Can someone take a look at that link and see if I'm gonna have trouble getting down to Galveston on Saturday 6/22? And if so, what's an alternative? Coming from Austin area.

Not familiar enough to provide you an alternate route but yeah you're SOL.

That link reads like all of Northbound is closed, but just the Southbound entrance ramp is closed. "There will be a total closure of the southbound I-45 entrance ramp" you should be on 45 by then so the entrance ramp closure won't impact you.

Your only real options are 6, 35 or 146 South past the closures, then back over to 45. But 146 is usually bad at the Kemah bridge on weekends with all the construction they are doing.

This is probably best bet. Only other alternative I would think of would be exiting at 2351, head west to 518, then south to Bay Area Blvd, south on Bay Area Blvd to 96 then back east to freeway. I expect trying to exit I-45 at Bay Area Blvd will be too late. Hwy 3 I expect to be a total train wreck. Reality is there are no good options and give yourself plenty of time because it's going to be terrible.

And for what it is worth, TxDOT is a spawn of Satan straight out of Hell.

Thank you. Do you think everyone will be taking that 6 route too? Seems like it may add more than 15 minutes to our trip.

SH 288 to SH 6 will not be bad

Use Google Maos. It will tell you what's going on and where to go. (Usually)

I would leave a least 2 days before and get a room in Galveston just to be safe.

Waze has gone downhill. I rarely use it anymore, but on my way to my sister's in Mont Belvieu the other weekend I noticed some work on I10 inbound. The freeway was completely closed. Said to myself, better use Waze when we head back home.

So we did, and it did detour us a different way than I10. Issue was it didn't have the road closure, just the traffic, so had us take 90, which the ramp from 90 to 10 was still closed, and 10 at that point was still closed. So we still had to deal with all the side street/feeder traffic of everyone forced off I10.

So it says the roads are closed until 12:00 pm Sunday. I assume that is noon on Sunday, correct?
