Anyone know a guy in maybe old Katy or Rosenberg that can work on refrigerator compressors for cheap? Habla ingles not required.

2 yr old fridge crapped out, out of warranty. My usual guy quoted 1500 for parts+labor & recommended just buying a new one. Before I slide my old unit down to the curb, I want to know if there is a rock-bottom fixer for compressor work on the far west side.

As much as Samsung gets bashed, deservedly so for their ice makers, in general, LG is the worst for major repairs, usually their compressors.

That being said, I feel like all the major manufacturers have a warranty of longer than 2 years.....

I got a screaming good deal on a new LG from Costco, maybe it's not too late to buy the extended warranty.

We recently replaced an LG because of the compressor. It was still under warranty, but to be compatible with the new compressor we had to update the CPU or something else.....it was going to cost around $1500 to replace the compressor....under warranty.

We talked to multiple techs and they said don't do it, we were lucky we got 8 years out of ours. They get calls for them going out under 5 years all the time. And the replacements are worse than the originals. Did some research and multiple class action lawsuits against them for it.

All that being said.....literally every manufacturer has their issues if you look into it enough. LG, Samsung, Maytag, Kitchen Aid, GE, etc.... Just pay a $$ where you're ok replacing in 5-10 years or go luxury. Or go the opposite and go as basic as you can get, no water dispenser, no french door, old school freezer above the fridge. Those last forever.

GE. Bought 2 yrs ago after Samsung hell. Get a store warranty on that LG right now if still in eligibility window.

Kinda in the same boat. My 16.7 cu ft upright freezer's compressor went out last night at some point. Needing either compressor replacement or a new freezer STAT.

Did this jinx me? We can send man to the moon, build A bombs, and beat the speed of sound. But can't build refrigerators with compressors that won't give out within 3 years? It's an LG fwiw.

I had a 3 yo LG that came with a house I bought. It worked, but the compressor was SUPER loud. I called multiple appliance repair guys and none of them were even willing to come look at it. They all had a similar story: They tried to repair LG refrigerators in the past, but were never able to get them fixed. This led to wasted time and frustrated customers so now they refuse to even give a quote.

I sold the LG on FB marketplace for $200 and got a crazy deal on a GE Profile from Costco 4 years ago. The new one works great (knocks on wood)...

May avoid disaster on this after all, fingers crossed... Just found out my credit card offers +1yr extended warranty coverage on defective products bought with card. I`m filing a claim with paperwork trail this week ... hoping they cut me check rather than an offer to repair. LFG...

Confirmed. I filed a claim on the credit cards extended warranty coverage, and they just cut me a check for the repair bill. I had to call GE official service center repair guy to come out and provide itemized estimate. Cost me a hundo for the service call, but Chase bank just paid me the repair cost of 1100ish. Im not fixing it, but i got a grand back for the trouble. So def check your card benefits if your stuff craps out early.

Im gonna part out this B on ebay. anybody need a GE icemaker door, I'll make you heckuva deal...
