Stupid question if this has been covered. Have they ruled out that this was a random crime/carjacking? From what I read the focus is on finding him and not some car they have on camera where something bad happened early in the AM. This is Houston.

Something I tell my Soldiers. We maintain and work on our vehicles every Monday in the motor pool. If you don't, it breaks down.

I think it's quite possible his wife knew something was a bit off. She was probably surprised he left early, and didn't tell her he was leaving early. Probably turned off his phone / life 360 and wasn't responding to calls.
My son did this a few weeks ago. While everything turned out OK, we considered calling the cops to help us find him. He was hiding from us because he wanted to go to a store (pretty innocent at the end), but we knew something wasn't right pretty quick.
Looks like he tried to stage a suicide / disappear but wasn't very good at it to hide from lawsuits. Hope he shows back up and all this gets resolved. Stress makes you do crazy stuff.

Sounds like he has been located. According to Harris County Pct. 1 Happy for OP and friends and family. Continued prayers for them for healing through whatever is to come.

Maybe the truck wasn't torched. It was a Dodge after all. Damn thing just caught fire, dude parked it, jumped out, banged his head pretty good and started walking.
Glad it all turned out well for him, his family, and his friends. Not always the case but good to hear he's safe.

I live in the same neighborhood and have a friend who knows him well. When this started people were proposing all kinds of theories - most were way off the charts crazy (random kidnapping, cartel stealing his identity, etc etc.) In reality when you hear these things it's usually a combination of a few things - depression, debt, drugs/alcohol , or another woman. The simple answer is usually the correct answer.
As well as you think you know someone you never really know their entire story. People compartmentalize their lives. That neighbor you think is so successful just might be living paycheck to paycheck and up to their ears in debt, and drowning in stress.

The Woodlands guy walking out his back gate makes more sense. Guy just lost it and needed a few days with a special someone to get his head straight.
If you need a few days with a special gal or guy, you dont burn your truck then head over to the motel. This is likely driven by something financial.
Regardless, it doesnt really matter. Guy will get lots of hugs when he returns and then spend the rest of the year in the doghouse.

Extreme financial pressure often drives people to suicide or mental breakdown. Regardless of what drove him to do this, I hope he can get the help he needs and that his family can heal. I'd personally be takin my @ss to church and focusing on both mental and physical health.
